Default Need advise on canon 18-135 and canon 18-200

    Hi all,

I've a 18-200 lens which bought few months ago. However, i found that it is quite heavy for me. After attach the lens to the body and hang around my neck, i felt a little bit tired gradually.

So, I would like to have some advise between the lens of 18-200 and 18-135. Shall i sell the 18-200 and change to 18-135? Besides the zoom, any different between these two lens?

    Thanks.

Well, you have to ask yourself if you need that extra 65mm reach or not. I think losing the zoom also may mean losing the convenience of a longer reach without changing lens (carrying another lens add weight too). Perhaps other than hanging the dslr around your neck look for alternatives on how you can carry your camera around.

    Sling it sideways?
    Hand-grip?
Portable camera bag (esp if you are just carrying 1 body and 1 lens)?

Image quality I am not sure but personally I am willing to carry something slightly heavier at the expense of not being able to take a decent picture due to the lack of range. So at the end of the day it depends what's the reach you need.

Perhaps if you can sell 18-200 at a good price and do not need a reach beyond 85mm consider 15-85 with some $$ top up? Or some other lens like tamron 17-50 and 85f1.8 prime (with some top up too).

Since weight is your main consideration,
    18-200mm 595g
    18-135mm 455g
    15-85mm 575g

You have to decide yourself. Might wanna consider visiting canon showroom at Vivo to try out the Canon lens you have narrow down and get a feel on the distribution of the weight when mounted onto the body.

AIyo 18-200 complain heavy already ar? Good also, you will not BBB to get the 70-200/4 or worse still 70-200/2.8....

Anyway as highlighted by the above post, switch from 18-200 to 18-135 will only save you around 140 grams. That is around 10% weight savings only (compared to weight of cam + lens). You can slap on a prime like 50/1.8 for the lightest solution.

Sling your cam across your body, so that the cam is on the side of your body. This should ease some weight of your neck and its still easy access to shoot. Its like drawing a gun. And go get a softer strap with a slight stretch that will also ease the weight. You can find the strap here
    Take the shot!
