Smile My model for today (10 pics)

Went to Katong Park after work today, and saw this beautiful lady (maybe it's a he, but I would like to think it as a she) roaming around. She allowed me to take her pictures freely. The first shot went off at 16:20, and ended at 16:57; a total of 42 pics. At the end, she performed a dance around me before disappearing into the sky.... I think I have fallen in love with her...

Presenting...

Cycad Blue

1. In the beginning, I too shy to go near.

2. I went closer.

3. A shot from the left-back.

4. Another shot from the left side. Me too shy to go lower...

5. A shot of her back. Isn't she sexy?

6. 'Help me, Superman!'

7. A shot from the right-front.

8. A low pose.

9. She can pose side-way, almost parallel to the ground.

10. A close-up for the final pose.

All pics are full-frame.

Hope you enjoy the series.

Interesting love story... the butt flu is really getting to your head... You need some *serious* medical help soon.

#3, #5, #6, #7 and #10. Very nice. Favourites #3 and #7.

Some of the shots best if could remove distracting backgrounds (excessive leaves in focus and road) by shooting from different place.

Oh yes, you really do need medical helps.
Sheesh...imagine falling in love with a butterfly.
On a more serious note, agree with Jason about the BG.

She's very beautiful! And she put on a show just for you. You did her a great service by taking such nice shots of her in her environment. Thank you for sharing. My day just got brighter.

Whaooo. Just posted 11 hrs ago and got 169 views.

Hi Papilio and Lion king, don't you think some story will make the post more interesting and liven up the mood? Otherwise, it might end up as a boring post...

Thanks mr_jason. I am still learning the tricky skill of controlling aperture , especially thru' all these practices, so your comments is really highly valued. Most of my shots were very close to the butt, just a few cm, so I didn't dare to move much. Next time I will look for suitable angle first before moving in.

I'm glad to hear that it brighten you day, nightbreed.

Btw, Papilio, do u know whether it's a he or she?

Oh yah, went to John Arifin's talk some time back, (twice actually, once by Olympus and once by Objectifs) where he showed a pic of the Cycad Blue (I think). Saw that pic again when I was in sbg last week. When I was taking this series of shots, I thot of that pic, so I tried to 'imitate' the style of showing portion of the top of the wings and at the same time experimenting with different angles.

Yes, it's a refreshing change to enhance your shots with your storyline.

Actually, this is a "he". The female Cycad Blue has a broad black border around both the fore and hind wings. Your shot shows the male, which does not have any borders. But nevermind, the intention of your story is appreciated.

矢張り雄蝶ですね。
就猜到是只雄蝶。
Just as I have guessed, it's a male butt.

Errrrrh , I'm not an expert , just a senior newbie .

You can find a simple process here:
http://www.clubsnap.org/display.php?...er/borders.htm

For me, I perform a few more steps before applying stroke and shadow:
1. resize to 600x450 (or some suitable size), and duplicate;
2. crop one of the image to 570x420 (to create a border of 30), select all, and copy;
3. apply Guassian blur to the other image, and paste the previous image.

Hope you find this useful.

Mathematically, I know that depth of field is a function of aperture, focal length and subject distance, ie, d = d(a,f,x). Anyone knows the formula? Maybe I should get some students to do an investigation in this area, and do a maths project for the Singapore Mathematics Project Festival.
