don't mind posting up a sample image to show the line (or something) ?
Hard to figure out what it is.

hmmmm..... small aperture, it appears.... larger aperture, it's gone.
    sounds strange.

I thought it's normal to see dust more obvious when we have smaller aperture?

New to DSLR and using f/22? Also something to discuss about, beside the things found in the image.

dust on the high pass filter (the thing that's in front of the sensor) is usually more visible at small apertures and when you focus to infinity. of course, it's also clearer if it's at a part of the pic that is a bright colour.

what you could try doing is using mirror lockup (in the menu for nikon, not sure about canon) and then blowing with a blower at the sensor.

if everything fails, send it for sensor cleaning at the service centre. but that's gonna cost you about 25 bucks if it's not under warranty and the dust will come back again

very cool. you got yourself a prize in your camera!
    that's a kite, no. that's a worm, no. that's a dragon, NO!
get a blower to clean it, never blow by your mouth into your camera, if it doesnt help, can bring it down to your system's service center.

Yea man, that's quite a bad case of dust in your sensor.

Start the sensor cleaning mode on ur camera, and use a blower to blow the dirt off, remember to point the camera down first, so no other dust can get in.

If you don't have a blower, dont use ur mouth to blow them off, maybe you can go to some camera shop and they might wanna help you.

Looks as if the camera was left open (without lens) for longer time. Sometimes I see such 'worms' in my viewfinder (where they may live peacefully, they won't appear in image). Bring your cam to your Service Center for sensor washing ... There is much more dust in the image than what you have marked.

Hi edtian, we first need to establish if the 'dust' is sitting in your lens or on your camera sensor. Then only we can decide what to do. Try this procedure.

    1) Remove your lens and just shoot a blank shot into a white wall, or a big piece of paper so that it fills the whole frame. See if the 'dust' is still there. If it is, then we can confirm that the cause is 'dust' on your camera sensor. If this is the case, then follow your manual instructions on how to do sensor cleaning. If you're not sure, ask some more experience photogs to help. Or send to service centre. If under warranty, you may get it done for free.

    2) Try shooting with another lens to see if the 'dust' persist. If it does, it still means you've got 'dust' on your sensor. Proceed with Step 1. If the 'dust' disappears when you use another lens, then the cause would be that you've got 'dust' in your lens. Try using a blower if the dust is on the outside of the lens. If the dust in on the inside of the lens, I'm afraid you'll have to send the lens in for servicing.

    Hope this helps.

Dust in the lens is almost never visible. That's sensor dust.

TS, your camera manual has a section on how to clean the sensor. Read it.

the size of the dust if it is should be quite visible if you look at the sensor. If using canon, just go to sensor cleaning and select manual cleaning ,,, the mirror will lock up and you will see the sensor ....

does it really help to point it down? sometimes when one looks at dust in the air under light, dust actually moves upwards...

    gravity.

also try not to change your lens while your camera is on. cos the static charge will attracts and magnetized the dust to your sensor.
