if i'm not mistaken this should be an osprey, one of the smaller varieties... however which specific variety i'm not too sure.

Hey there, if this photo was shot in Singapore... than its a rare shot you got there. I can't really confirmed the exact species but definitely a falcon. As its still at an immature state, it has all the features of a peregrine falcon.
If this was not shot in Singapore, do let me know as I should be able to find out based on its territory. Below is a shot I took of a peregrine falcon. Compare the similarities. Of course, this picture is of a matured peregrine about 5 yrs old. Nice shot... truly love it. ![]() Saiful Bahar http://www.pbase.com/saifulbahar |

Not an Osprey.
It is not easy to ident just thru photo, as some of these looks similar. A more positive id will include the size and more views of the wings etc. However, this is my try If this is around this region then, this is more a winter visitor here ie, generally Nov to Feb., I am more incline to ident it towards a juvenile Kestral, either a Common Kestrel Falco tinnunculus or Lesser Kestral Falco naumanni the sizes are about 30-34cm and 29-32 cm respecively or if it is bigger than it also could be juvenile Laggar Falcon Falco jugger size about 38-42 cm As to what Saiful has suggested it is also possible to be a Peregrine Falcon Falcon peregrinus, it can be found here in SEA during winter in the north. size about 41-46 cm Anyway good catch there Cheers |

still need alot of guidance from the big bosses themselves! *looks at Fred and chngpe01* ok.. here's my take on this... peregrine falcon and lagger falcon is ruled out because of the differences in thighs and markings on the tail.. my final conclusion lands on the male kestrel... not female cos only got 1 terminal tail band.. ended up with the common (eurasian) kestrel because couldn't spot the grey tertials on the bugger... other wise it might be the lesser kestrel... hope it helps! ![]() BTW, wonderful shot of the bird!! elegant!! |
