BlackBerry meet the security requirements of many companies as corporate phones/email devices, but nowadays many of them are buying iPhone to replace their staffs' Blackberry.

That's called the Droid here, probably because it's CDMA instead of GSM. It's on the biggest carrier and it is fairly popular, though most who have it probably wanted an iPhone and didn't want to change carriers.

    i see, i think it's a real viable alternative.

i think other than CDMA versus GSM the main problem with the GSM version is that it doesn't have google maps loaded? not that i plan to use the phone as a mapping device anyways, but it'd have been nice.

anyways, open mind, will try both and see which one is better..

iPhone. The application selection is amazing. I have two screens of games, apps that help me track my personal expenses, bus arrival times, ton of news website apps, stock tracking, check Amazon, take and edit photos, track foreign exchange etc. The apps are what gives the iPhone an edge for me.

I just saw this new Motorola Milestone: http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/2631...lestone-xt720/

I saw something about a replacement for Motorola Droid for the second half of 2010 here.

I'm surprised that Google maps aren't loaded initially, but there has been fragmentation about what's Google's and what's available to everyone. iPhone has had a version of Google maps but that will probably change. I loaded Mapquest maps on my iPod touch because Google gets it wrong quite often.

I'm interested in all the Android phones but I'm not changing carriers just for a phone. At least in S'pore, you have a smaller area and 3 carriers. You should have perfect reception everywhere, although I know that it doesn't work that way.

The mobile hotspot on the EVO 4G is good for me and it avoids an extra device and the subscription since I already tether. I like the way iPhone is slick but the carrier is so bad, I'd almost move to another country to have to use it.

It was actually quite good as a 3G modem and I could run for 6 hours in that mode, but talking and surfing the web and play Java games sucked battery power completely in 2-3 hours. The second battery was handy. My third 3G phone, an LG Lotus, is much more efficient with only a slightly bigger battery.

As the EVO is the first of its kind (a WiMAX device) in the U.S.A., I expect the same kind of demand on the battery as the A900 was. Given that it was 3 years between the phones, I'd be surprised if WiMAX or HSPA+ or LTE phones would be efficient until 2013 or 2014.

Isn't it always a problem being the first?
Just thinking out loud and I know that this happen even with Apple products, if they all know that the first model's batteries suc* big time, why do they not fix it first but wait for future models? To sell more phones?

For 1 thing, better performance is possibly a result of technological advancement over the years. What you can achieve now may not be possible at reasonable cost in the past.

For the other thing, it could be like what Bill Gates does.. DOS 1, DOS 2, ......... when DOS 5 is released, he already owns a private plane..........

that's what I though as well and that's why I don't but the first "test" model but rather the "upgrade" or at least only after others have "test" it

In Apple's case, the battery technology isn't as advanced as their designs would like. They make their devices very thin. Lithium Ion batteries are generally the shape of AA/LR6 batteries internally, grouped together. Apple wanted batteries shaped differently to use the wasted space around the cylinder.

Of course, it's all a matter of what a company is willing to pay and what they think the customer is willing to pay them. My extended battery on the Samsung A900 was US$60 compared to US$40 for the regular battery, but it lasted more than US$20 worth extra, though it was not a slim fit.

It's cheaper to punish the customer than to do the better design, don't you think?

shareholders' expectation. if you don't come out with products on a regular basis... the company's outlook will not be rosy.

But the quility of the products will have to be good, right? Crap products every month will still means crap company.

Anyway, so long as there are people who will buy, though there are short comings which everyone knows will improve in the next model ............... nothing much will change

who cares if the product is crap... you need to be showing the shareholders that you are always on the ball and not those one-hit wonder companies.

just look at MS, Windows is crap but people still buy it

Windows 7 is a big improvement, though.

I was surprised that HTC has done so well in the phone business. Two years ago, I would not have thought about one of their phones and yet now, they have some desirable configurations and their build quality has improved.
