    Default Help to rate lens: Pentax M 28 3.5 and M 50 1.7

    Hi guys

Should have made this long ago. I read review on both lens. My style is more landscape + indoor and food, some portrait.

    I found M50 1.7 is awesome. But saw a very eye catching M 28 3.5

So with my liking of taking photo, which one is better? I heard that M 28 3.5 takes SHARP photos, no less than M50 1.7. Does any one have both or seen both and can help me to compare?

Pros and cons of both would be much much appreciated

    Thanks for reading

I think both lens have manual focusing, not have auto focusing. If you love manual focuing lenses, wait for sifu to explain and recommend to you.

Go for the M50/1.7. You'd need the wide aperture for indoor and food photography

28/3.5 is a very good little lens for street and everyday outdoor photos too.

    I'd recommend the M50/1.7.
Fast aperture when you need it, good sharpness wide open and very good when stopped down to f2.8-f8. Personally I've found the focal length to be very nice for portraits, close-ups (eg. food shots), street, still life.

A slower 28/3.5 although sharp is already at f3.5. A bit darker on the viewfinder for MF and I personally prefer faster lenses for the option. I do have a Takumar 35/3.5 though that somehow produces a sharp and nice rendition that not all my lenses can compare too, so don't totally throw out the option of slower lenses.
28mm focal length and a slower aperture may also not give you enough shallow DOF for subject isolation in some shots. This combination works very well for environmental portraits (and street) though.

    M50 1.7 food photography?

I prefer the A50 1.7 on DSLRs though

Thanks guys for very good info. I decided to get both, but getting M 50 1.7 first. Now I have 2 M50 1.7 lol. Going to sell the scratchy one. Then getting M 28 3.5. Very very impress with the sharpness on 28 3.5 today.
