Default "Match Making" Services for the Buy and Sell Forums

Just wondering if it would be feasible to get a regular group of people or mabe the mods of the Buy and Sell forums to perform "match making" services. Often we do see a WTB and WTS of a similiar item....perhaps the mods could help out to "match make" the members in each thread? Would facilitate the flow of information given that the B&S forums move so quickly its very possible to miss out on a potential "match"

Hmm...
Given a choice, I rather not have this thing going on.

As we all know, most of the mods are helping out in a volunteer way. They cannot be always monitoring the place all the time.

It up to the people to :
1. Do a search
2. Thru frds

I do not speak for all the mods and such, just a personal view.

Match make?

Means you want the mods to go through every buy and sell thread ?

You want us to handle the transaction and delivery too?

Personally I don't mind tho, just a minimal additional 20% admin fees on every successful transaction of minium $1000. Buyer and seller split that 20% payment.

Limited offer for CS members only.

hmmm, actually i do go thru most of the B&S threads (well it IS my duty...), but most of the time i don't really bother to "match-make" unless someone i know is looking for something and i come across it in the forums. in which i'll drop the person a PM, email or sms.

morale of the story? be nice to UL...

In Singapore, we have the government intruding into our daily lives telling us make more babies, how to romance, how not to have sexual intercouse etc....
And now you want to have the mod here telling us how to sell//buy things?

Have you become to dependent on having the authorities to order you around that you miss their guidance even in online forums?

My my I never knew such an innocent suggestion could turn out into such a flame bait ehehehehe....perhaps one day when I'm in the mood I'll get back to it

Anyway what I was thinking was along the lines of what Larry has been doing (though his is more on a friendship basis). I mean if you do happen to see a match it'll just be a nice touch to just direct both buyer and seller in the same direction. People are always looking to improve their community - I just felt this might be a nice thing to do for the community, and was seeking opinions whether this can be considered or not.

And looking back at my initial post I believe it is quite obvious that I was tabling the idea for some constructive discussion (I mean I could have just said "I want a B&S match making service"). Many thanks for those who gave constructive feedback.

Oh...and a little OT here....if this is an indication of how the feedback forums work in here...I believe a little QC is in order. I mean how are you guys gonna expect people to give feedback if it just degenerates into some mud sling fest. I know you guys don't run clubsnap as a profit organisation but you're neglecting an important area of running an organisation - Customer Relation; in this case customer relation via a properly maintained feedback forums.

Just some food for thought. Cheerio!

Default Alternative soln

Hi mod,

the main problem in the buy/sell column is that things are moving very fast. For instance, a sell thread would be on the next page after about 3hrs. Most people do not read through the first page, at best 2nd page.

One alternative that does not use too much man power is to compartmentise the buy/sell column. Separate them into compartment would allow the movement in them to be slower. In addition, the buyer/ seller can also reach out specifically to people of certain interest. This also increase the hit rate.

I suggest we compartmentise the buy/sell into the following sub-column :

1. Consumer and Pro-sumer Digi cam
2. Pro and entry level DSLR
3. Camera accessories (Filters, adapter etc for all cam type)
4. Film based camera
5. Video and others

Hope that some mod would review the suggestion

Hmm... this suggestion is worth considering

Sub-categorisation could make things more efficient....

Hi BraveHart,

Thanks for your honest feedback and opinion. We will definitely take your points into consideration and try to improve for the future.

In any case, we view the Feedback Forum as not only a one-way communication avenue to the Mods/Admins, but also to garner OVERALL member opinions about particular topics, thus occasionally the discussion does tend to veer. Howeve, having said that, our assurance is that we will pay more attention to this subforum and try to provide insight and answers as best we can.

Hi song,

Believe me, this issue has been discussed several times over the past few weeks, and its still being debated.

One of the issues we foresee with this is that people who want to sell a kit will have to post and track multiple threads eg one for the body, one for the flash, one for the lenses, etc.

However, the number of people doing such may not be a big one, thus it may only affect a small sub-section of our members.

Like I said, we are still deliberating on this, and hope to be able to give some answers soon.

Hi darren,

thks for reviewing. I think most kit sellers are also ending up selling their stuff in parts. Here is a way of handling selling in kits. We can change the last section : "video and others" to "video, others and kit sale". I forsee that if the post in this section does not garner response, the seller will then repose them in parts later. So the summary solution for these kit sellers is to post it for sale as a kit only and then selling them separately if response is not good. In addition, those interested could pm the seller, when posted as kit, indicating their interest in part of the kit.

Hope these addition points may make your decision easier.
