They focused too much on producing film. Just like Polaroid with their instant photo paper.

Nowadays time to market matters a lot. Canon took a big chunk on the market with the first entry level DSLR (Digital rebel aka 300D). Late entrants got their behinds whooped for a while... like Minolta and Pentax. But now they are trying to come back with a vengence.

Kodak was so slow in coming up with a digital solution for the consumer market that they never recovered. That is despite the fact they invented the digital sensor. I had 2 Kodak digi cameras (a 2MP one and a 5MP one) so far. And both are super good in color rendition. But being slow to market with products pretty much killed them. That said, Kodak's high end sensors are still kicking butt. And are being used in high end applications like MF digital backs and industrial applications.

You can still find it if you look hard enough. But processing will be an issue. But there are still so many kinds of film still available. If you haven't, try shooting slides. Very very nice colors. Try EktaChrome from Kodak.

I doubt Kodak will return to camera manufacturing. They just recently exited the consumer digital camera market.

Check out the D300s User thread and you will be amazed. So many newbies get D300s and D700 as first cam. And come into the thread asking the most basic questions, like "why my picture so dark?". Damn power

Ask not what the camera can do for you but what you can do with the camera !

Trust me this is no exam question , either way , you cant go too far wrong.

Some newbies buy the top end cam with functions they dunno , but learn along the way, cos they dont want to spend chunk of money to upgrade to a full feature cam later.

The blind chase for the best equipment is quite futile in my opinion, as most of the time , the human user is usually the weakess link.

Holding a Hatori Hanzo sword wont make me a better samurai.

Hattori Hanzo? hmmm watch too much kill bill already..

A lousy and lazy photographer with the best gear will only make him an idiot with a good camera. Nothing more.

In the end, what matters are the pictures.
