    * Why dun u save some dough and go for Canon EOS7D (Semi Pro And Mag Alloy WITH FULL HD)
Why don't everyone invest in something that will never go obsolete? Get better in your skills. Read, learn, try more. Get better.

In the end, whether you are holding the newest camera, or 1 to 2 generations behind, if your skills suck eggs, you still end up with sucky pictures.

And sorry to shock you with this info: They use the same 12mp sensor made by Sony! Yup, the same one found in the Sony A500.

I never like the Sony Alpha range...
    Well, it doesn't excite me.

Of course the great D90 is good. However, KX is really the best value/$ DSLR available, at least from what I know

Are u comparing the price diff? D-90 is an entry mid level SLR whereas k-x is for budget enthusiasts.
Specs for specs: toner graduation nikon wins hands down, metering wise, still nikon D-90.
so what does k-x have in store? comes is various colours??

K-x is just a gimmick. There is a lot of ppl writing about how good k-x is but i think it is only because it is for budget conscious students?? no comparisons to nikon D-90.

    k-x

Kx a gimmick? I think you better do a proper research rather than make baseless claims and lead people to nowhere.

    Comparison shots :

    Kx at ISO12800 :http://www.imaging-resource.com/PROD...12800_NR2D.HTM
    D90 at ISO12800 :Don't have

All this for a $790 camera is no gimmick.

Ermm... attika just said D90 is way better than Kx in terms of IQ... and when I hightlighted that both cameras used the exact same sensor from sony, he said he is not impressed with sony alpha...

But seriously, i do not give a flying rat's behind about what excites him or not. He can excite himself with whatever, and it still doesn't concern me. All I care about is that the TS gets accurate information for him/her to base his/her decisions on.

This brings me to expect replacement of D90 to must at least have 12800 iso speed and retain the same/more details

And Sony happens to be a chief supplier for CCD (cmos)

lastly we r not talking about photography skills here Mr senior member or try using your FM2 to shoot F1 race next year

The result is not the same. But doesn't mean Kx's result will suck that badly compared to the D90. As it turns out, the performance is about on par. Feel free to check any of the independent review sites out there for samples. Yea D90 wins in metering. But dynamic range is mostly about the sensor. Optical resolution? We are talking about camera bodies here, not lenses. And there is nothing between the mount and the sensor. Optical resolution is exactly the same for 2 camera bodies using the same sensor. Yup Sony is one of the major suppliers. So it means Kx and D90 get the same sensor from Sony. And you can say Pentax is a gimmick? hmmm

People have been shooting F1 with film before digital came out. What did you think they shot it with? a shotgun? I am just saying the best thing to invest in is skillset, which will transcend camera body generation, instead of squabbling about which current camera body to buy.

BTW CCD is CCD. CMOS is CMOS. CCD is not CMOS. At least try to understand what you are talking about before shooting your mouth off.

After much research, narrowed down to Pentax K-x or Olympus E-620 or Nikon D-90 which are within my budget and time horizon. Some says Pentax's main selling point is its value for money but lenses are expensive and limited. Olympus seems like an all-rounder (plus its the lightest!) but no movie mode, also not sure about the availability of 4/3 lenses. Nikon D-90 looks up for review so not sure about the longevity of this model.

I basically like to take landscapes, cityscapes and macro.

Would appreciate your advise on what would be a good choice of first DSLR?

    thanks!
    Two recommendations for you :

    1. E620
    2. EPL1

As for 4/3 lens, the range is not as wide as Nikon, but u only need a few good lenses and Olympus lense are all good.

If u want to be able to buy buy buy in terms of accessories etc etc, u cannot go wrong with Nikon or Canon. Olympus in a way help u to save money because there is less stuff out there to poison you.
I have a near-mint Olympus E-620 Underwater Case for Sale. PM me for a great deal!

I read through the threads, and I must say the passion behind the camera is just incredible - pinhole and daredevil in particular truly brought out research for each of us to check out. Owning a camera is very personal, and the quality of picture will still have to come from the skill of the photographer. Technology can do so much; but competency will exploit that leading edge in any, in the camera. Go, hold the camera, take a couple of shots (if demo available) and emotionally, do you get connected? If not, move on to the next. Decision making can be a "science" if you used Kepner Tregoe Problem Solving Decision Making skill; but for a couple of thousands, let's not waste precious time. Buy what your heart wants, and go out and shoot, and shoot and shoot...If you don't like it, ask if it was the camera or the person pressing the shutter. There is also a BnS. There is no perfect solution - if there was, we wouldn't have Orchard River!
