It is basically a ritual killing of the bull so in a way, the bull gets some glory by going out in a fight with Man.
I attended a bullfight at the exact same stadium Plaza de Toros las Ventas in Madrid and the thing that you can't experience in pictures is the smell of sweat and blood pervading the entire stadium when the first spears from the mounted Picadores go into the bull. This softens up the bull for the killing act by the Matadores.
By the time the Matadores reenters the ring with his red cape and sword, the bull is already exhausted and bleeding to death from the lances stuck in it. Even if it wins against the Matadores, it has already been fatally wounded anyway.
Still, compared to a cow in an abattoir or when you cut the throat of a lamb for Puasa, the bull is given the opportunity to go down fighting.
