Need more info to go on, really.

Not that that'll stop the 50 people who'll rock round suggesting A, or B, or even option C. Or tell you that they have D and love it.

Personally, 35mm and 50mm feels very different for me on DX.
After using some more, they start to feel very different even on FX too.

Have you tried the 2 lenses out? If you have a zoom, maybe you can spend one day shooting with the zoom at 50mm only and another day with the zoom fixed at 85mm and see for yourself which one you enjoy more.

Don't know how to advise you besides that. I don't like the 50mm FOV anymore so I'm selling my lens. Tried the 85mm and sold that away too cos I didn't like it. Sticking with 105/135mm for portraits (on FX). Find your own preference by trying them out.

The 35 for street and the 85 for portraits if you have the space otherwise the 50.

you use 35mm on DX for landscape? and now you are looking at 50mm f1.4 or 85 f1.8...

maybe because a lot of material keep saying Prime is the way to go so a lot of people start with primes which can be a good thing but usually not for most beginners.

Ermm... hard to recommend. Lets see, I have the 35 also, I also have two 50s, and I have an 85 too. And I can find uses for all of them, in different situations. And I can shoot either landscape or portraits or abstract with them... A lens or a focal length is just that. It is up to your creativity to make the pictures be it landscape/portrait. You just cannot simply pigeon-hole the lenses like that.
