Even Oly users admit their AF system is not the best out there

I am not saying MF does not have it's place; I am saying, look at what the TS is saying and try to understand where he's coming from. Obviously he has tried GF1, and he is finding limitation now (maybe not earlier) in the known-issue of the Oly m4/3 AF. Given those constraints, I think there are enough Oly users in the m4/3 forum who are suggesting "use MF" already.

I'm not sure if your Pentax has Liveview; if it does, it will most likely be using contrast detect autofocusing. Have you tried using that to do normal autofocus (compared to phase detect autofocus when using with viewfinder)?

    you are right..
focusing speed is not one of them..

there are many pros and cons of EPL1 and GF1..

but its just not me to buy back the same camera..

    yah..

basically main reasons for changing are the AF speed and low light capabilities..

i know that if possible move to a brightly lit area..

but sometimes really "bo pian" right?..

    Ah okay

To me, the main differences will be
    i. weight (although I got used to and like the more balanced feel of a DSLR)
ii. viewfinder (coming from PnS to G1, I couldn't get used to the change initially)
iii. choice - man... the BBB virus will hit you like a brick. Exercise self-control from buying (although the BnS market moves a lot faster also).
iv. jpeg direct from camera is better than Panasonic, which is known for it's duller colours compared to Oly (although you can set Saturation and Contrast +2). In fact, when using Pana, I was processing all photos from RAW, but now I am doing everything from jpeg.

low light capabilities was one of the reasons I moved also; it is slightly better but don't expect too much. Still, I find the "noise" produced at ISO1600 much more pleasing to the eye than noise produced by Pana (and from what I heard, Oly isn't doing much better). I suspect it's an improvement due to increased sensor size. I don't even use the Noiseware software I bought for G1/GF1 anymore.

I guess most of the dSLR will be able to AF better than the EPL1.

But if you really desire much better low light capability, may I suggest you consider a FF DSLR? With a FF dSLR and a m43 system you'll have both compactness/mobility and high IQ/performance when you need it.

You may not gain much moving to an APS-C sensor system from the m43 in terms of IQ.

What low light shooting are you trying to do?

Have you tried using a tripod or flash?

I checked out some samples on Youtube. Honestly, a bit indecisive, but I still don't see it as
a killer. Of course everyones mileage will vary and seems like TS mind is already made up.

YMMV, but another camera may not be the solution as discussed in another thread.

What sort of children shots are you trying to do anyway?
I really cannot imagine that a 4/3 sensor at say 20mm FL focus at 2m at f5.6 giving a DOF of ~2m is not enough.

All said, based on the cameras that I have had a chance to handle. If you are really set on good AF capability, a Nikon D300 does posses very good AF. A Pentax Kx (much cheaper camera) has fantastic low noise in high ISO but the AF certainly cannot compare. A 500D (also cheaper than a D300) did not impress upon me that it was too different (certainly not D300 type AF). The 3 cameras are from different price brackets. MHO is that you'll get what you pay for in the AF department and camera build. So it depends on how high the AF ladder you want to aim at.
You will need a good lens to match as well.
(its always easy to help ppl spend their money )
