It is mentioned in the auction that This rebate program is available for all customers globally. The catch seems to be something called Deferred Rebate i.e. you will only get your rebate after 11 months

that sound like some rebate done by some H/P shop back in yr 2001-2002.

that is the risk you have to take. without the rebate, it's not worth it. with the rebate, you have to wait for months before the deal becomes value for money (and provided the company is still around and the cheque reaches you).
