i like this! i usually have trouble finding anything worth taking but this is nice. on a side note, you might wanna open the aperture to about.. f13? for better sharpness. anything smaller causes diffraction which makes things very soft.

tempted to get a 18-70 once again for budget and quality sake now that my tamron 17-50 is semi-broken and dying

Ha ha,& I was waiting to get a good tamron 17-50 to test & play play The 18-70 is one of the little best kept secret, its almost as good as the 16-85, just shorter reach & lesser width but great build & cheap cheap. Saw some in B&S Btw what happened to the Tammy, worth getting one?

i think the 18-70 is great in everything exp distortion at the wide end which was quite a turn off for me. i found the colours a little flat too, but i think all in all its a great package and i ll pick up my own copy if i find one at t nice price =)

imho, the tamron is a great lens for the price. my only gripe is that the BIM version can have unreliable focus in lower lighting. and its pretty slow too. other than that, very very nice.

Thank you bro for the input. Maybe I am lucky to get good copy. I compared both 16-85 & 18-70 side by side & for the 18-70, distortions is hardly perceptible (as say compared to that so obvious in lens like the 18-200) contrasts is slightly less & sharpness slightly less so at the edges/corners. Comparisons with many other kit lens in web reviews like DxOMark bear this out. Also, some vignetting at wide visible but acceptable. Perhaps will borrow a Tammy to try first before committing. Will stop here, maybe OT already Cheers!

Hey, the colours may not be as flat, take a look at this photo taken using the 18-70, photos straight out from cam.

Amazing picture quality from a cheap "humble lens" indeed. Pictures can almost be easily mistaken as having been taken with the venerable 70-200 f2.8 trinity lens Awesome camera too.

I was at the other end, at MBS, probably shooting in your direction at that time too ha ha...
