Any lens can have bokeh for halfbody portrait, even PnS. Tt's the quality of the bokeh that you are after...not juz bokeh or not bokeh...probably you are looking for something that gives you similar perspective as the 50mm f1.8?
yes sir,... I'm looking for easy to create bokeh lens like 50mm 1.8.. don't want the background to be far away... ^^

Hi,..I know what you mean when you say Bokeh. It has ambiguous meaning...

    1) It is quality of background blurr..
    2) Bokeh originates from a Japanese word which simply is the background blurr.

It is a subjective term not found in Meriam Websters.. can find in wikipedia though..
Really,..my apologies to you if I toss around the word wrongly..

Look at the uploaded images of the camera, the diameter is very clearly labeled.

Hi hi , no worries bro , no need to apologise so 见外 .
Basically , I think all the earlier posts trying to explain that getting a shallow Depth of Field , needs to consider a number of factors.

Personally , I find that getting object-distance right is key in getting a shallow DOF. As to how nice the out of focus area looks , that will depends on the lens , and the type of blades used in the lens .

Got a question, since the camera doesn't have an OVF, how you determine the image is sharp? Just solely base on the LCD?

Yup. But this camera supposed to be used mostly as a premium PnS, so should be in auto-mode all the time unless you going for creative de-focussed shots.

    Hi, everyone.

I am a new and try to seek advice from everyone on NEX-5, before decide on buying it...

Because i looked the spec and some quality photoes posted by ed9119, this camera is very good, but I read there are lot of steps on setting, like ISO and etc...

Since this camera is out for almost a month, can anyone comments on the control after the using/shooting on it (due to compact camera design, just 2 button and a dial with center 4-dir control)???

    Appreciate of your valuable comments

I think I am one of the 1st batch to buy this camera. Share you my experience.

I am using A mode 90%, because the iAuto tends to over expose +0.3EV. So I always keep my A mode with -0.3ev (using multi-exposure metering).
To change the Exposure compensation is only one button pressed.

I use Flexible focus mode and turn off the "shooting help". So the Help button is replace by focus point button. Also one button to access focus point setting.

The only trouble I found is to change the ISO. If use auto, I think (not confirm) it allows from iso200 to iso800 only, which is not sensitive enough indoor. So I need to set iso1600 or higher by going into Menu->Brightness->ISO->(choose ISO). This is the long sequence which I think Sony should improve.
I am happy if they allow us to configure highest usable auto ISO in setup. Coz I definitely will set to ISO6400 and it solves all problem.

Have you tried Program Mode and switch the metering to Center-weighted metering.

Hiya, I did some testing with my NEX5, on Auto ISO mode it will choose up to ISO1600 max. Maybe your camera is an earlier batch on different firmware? Mine is on firmware 1.03 just got it last week.

Strange. I also read one of the reviewers on line have a ver 1.03 but mine is 1.01 and checking the websites seems it is not available for download yet. Wonder why? Perhaps V1.03 is being monitored for problems before being officially released for download?

Maybe I guess wrong. Coz I didn't really check my picture ISO when using auto ISO.

If any of you guys want to try before you buy, you can head to Ion Sony (4th Level). They have a display unit which is setup with power for you to play around with.

And since price seems to be controlled, I guess there's no difference to where you buy?
