Your image showed the following picture

This is a AF-D version of Sigma 24-70 lens. Nikon D5000 does not come with a built-in motor drive that drives AF-D lens. It requires Nikon AF-S lens to operate or Sigma lens with HSM function to operate. The appropriate Sigma 24-70 lens would be the "24-70mm F2.8 IF EX DG HSM"

Is there anything i can buy, to add on so to make it work?

You may consider the following course of actions to resolve the matter
-- trade this lens for other Sigma HSM lenses or Tamron lens with built-in motor
-- change your camera body to those with built-in motor
-- acquire the manual focusing skill when using this lens mounted to D5000 body.

You can change your camera, or change the lens to the one Squid nentioned above, or to nikon AFS lens. Think that's pretty much it.
When you bought your D5000 body, don't you know that it doesn't have a built in AF motor??

thats y i strongly advise my friends dont buy Nikon DSLRs that does not have build in motor... to prevent incompatibility issues and limited lens to use.

Well, u should sell away this lens and get the HSM version (which is more expensive), or just save urself the trouble and get a DSLR with build in AF motor, to prevent such things from happening again.

You should have done a bit more research and realized the limitations of your D5000.

Sure there is. Replace your camera with the D90 and it will work.

Actually, not every user needs to use AFD lenses. Some soccer moms/dads are just happy using their D5000/D3000 with 18-55, 55-200, 35/1.8 or 18-200. Although I admit it may be less true in Singapore, there is definitely a big slice of such users in the USA market.

It really depends on the users's needs.

This can prove to be very frustrating as the design of the lens is intended for focusing with a motor and not with the hands. This is worse with a zoom lens, what more with the tiny viewfinder of the D5000...

I recommend that you don't consider manual focusing with the lens as an option.

and you should know that this lens is actually a wide angle lens.....only for FF...
for your D5000 which is APS-C..you will find the frame rather tight..
