    Thanks
For me, I look for color and cut. Color is quite obvious when you put a yellow and clear diamond side by side. A good cut will make the diamond look bigger as it reflect light better, if I am not wrong.

For clarity, I think it only matters if the diamond is big. Else I do not think you can really see the flaws in a small diamond.

For your choice above, maybe if you feel the color is not too bad and is within your budget, then just go ahead lor...

I actually wanted to buy a diamond and went to Marina Bay Sands (MBS) as there are a lot of jewellery shops there with opening sales. On the way, I passed by the Casino entrance, and thought why not try to double the size of the diamond. Double or nothing.

Guess what? I learnt that Bacarat is a game that one should not play.

My 2 cents worth. If buying one carat or more, then better go for D, E or F colour, VVS1 or VS1 with GIA certification. Why??? Because any diamond above 1 carat are very good investment stones.

I am not sure if diamonds can be considered investments as I read that they are in huge supplies in the mine. It is the diamond dealers that are limiting the volumes in the market and hence speculating on the price.

Also, I learnt from one of the shops that the only difference in value about certified diamonds and those in-house diamonds, is that you can trade in certified diamonds at full value for an upgrade whereas there is a depreciation for in-house diamonds. So for wife, buy certified diamonds. For gf, buy in-house diamonds.

Also, I have been told that 57/58 facets is the standard certified cuts. Anything else is a modified cut.

What I have considered for myself is an alternative stone like sapphire paired with smaller diamonds. For a the price you pay for a diamond, you can actually get quite high grade sapphires.

Point is, must be above 1 carat. Anything below is not.

beside buying from big name stores like Soo Kee, Lee Hwa etc, there are some private jewellers tucked away selling GIA certified diamonds as well.
well worth the effort to find out as the prices are cheaper than retail chains.
the one I go to have their own loyal customers and the boss is GIA trained as well, very knowledgeable and friendly.
well, happy hunting. there's a perfect one waiting for you out there.

Hi all, I'm going to be in Singapore in a couple of weeks and have been told that diamond rings may be cheaper in Singapore. I'm planning to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend and wondering if my fellow CS'ers can recommend me a few shops for me to look at while I'm in Singapore? I'll be there for 3 days so should be enough time... but my wallet will hate me afterward

Try to find a wholesaler for good value, most shop in Singapore either buy from whole seller or the higher range type is on consignment from whole seller. What to buy depend on individual some go for branded product while some looks for value for money, if you think of resale value then don't commit buy something else.
    This is my opinion.

Its been 6 months since I've been wearing it but can I say that I still get other MEN stopping that few seconds to stare and admire at my ring when I go for salsa lessons? Lol!! That never fails to lighten up my day. Fine I know that sounds shallow but ladies do...

TS, its true that cut is most important, hence my fiance chose AGS-ideal for me. Colour H (coz side diamonds are H as well so they might look yellow if fiance chose a better colour) but coz of the cut, it sparkles like mad. Lol. Clarity is VS2, not as good as VVSs of coz but really not visible to the naked eye. Carat is 0.5. Not too big coz this has already scratched so many things incl my fren's hand when she walked beside me!! Hahaha.
I agree that cut is the most important. It's what makes the diamond really sparkle and catch your eye. Have seen huge diamonds that have no sparkle, in the end don't even look real. Look for AGS triple-ideal, at the very least GIA triple-excellent. VS2 and above cannot see the inclusions one (unless really got bionic microscope eyes.... ) Also, the better the cut, the more white the diamond will look because it reflects more of incoming light. So even an F-G diamond will look colourless.
