Default D70 built-in flash and 12-24 lens.

When using the built-in flash, shadow of the lens is projected in the pix.
(Hood was not on).

How to correct this problem?

Any 77mm front element with the hood, will definitely produce shadows, you need an external flash.

The 12-24 DX is 18-36mm in 35mm format, and the built-in flash's flash coverage does not extend to 18mm, so even if it is not due to the size of the lens blocking the light, the corners of the image will not be properly lit by the flash.

An external flash with then to have a coverage from 24mm or 28mm to 85mm or 105mm, fix on a diffusor to allow the coverage to go to 18mm or wider.
