I reckon someone should import a copy of the Daily Sport, that'd probably keep them going for a month.

Hmm, maybe even the Sun would keep them going for a month ^.^

Its less packed at the back and able to move around for different angles. I remember once there was a Grandmother with her young grand daughter and she was blocked by the main group and was not able to see much, i lent her my stool and she was so happy, i bet that made her day. Maybe the 'LG' should share their vintage points with other shooters for a while, or step down once a while to allow the people at the back a better view, that will cause less resentment.
yes, this is a good point.

after all, whatever the reason why the photographers want to snap their images for, whether it is for personal use, whether they earn money from it.. one has to remember that as a photographer, one is still part of the community. and there are more people than just photographers at such events. not just that, when you act, like it or not, people will lump photographers together as a group.

it is not just ladders that is a problem... a while ago i attended one single costume event at the behest of some friends, and i was disgusted by the behaviour of the photographers at that event at downtown east. i never participated in such again. whenever a cosplayer would volunteer to pose for one photographer, you should see the swarm of bees flocking to the area and jostling. never mind that the poor photographer who originally asked the cosplayer to move to the side for a better background didn't get to shoot, they would step all over him/her and push them aside.

i guess there is something inherently wrong with our culture, that saying a simple "excuse me", or waiting for people to have their turn is out of the question.

In short, its the "myself before everyone else mentality".

No wonder some people view photographers as a nuisance.

yes, after a while, i just didn't feel like shooting or associating myself with photography at all..

i think the cosplayers must have been very put off by such behaviour.. either that or flattered i guess.

i also noted a few random solo rangers acting very suspiciously... lenses pointed to the wrong parts, going in far too close......

From your point on the cosplayer, yea.. there a bunch of people are really getting inconsiderate nowadays. Met situation where people are snapping away at the cosplayers, there are some that just walk directly into their "line of fire" and start snapping on their own making the rest of the photographers behind frustrated. After these inconsiderate people are happy taking their shots (which they seem like to be taking for a very long time), they walked off and the cosplayers maybe stop posing or would have changed their pose already.

People reach there one hour early and kapok their location, you can go there three hours earlier and block book the frontline.

For instance, if you went to queue for a condo and you were late, do you open a thread in CS to complain why those people so kiasu and queue overnight?

If you are lazy and you can't tahan the waiting game, that means you don't have that rich a passion for event photography. Give it up and go shoot portraits.

You can go and ask YLSX (our event king) how he did it. Learn from him. When you go to an event and you see a lot of photographers standing by on the first row, that means you are VERY late. You think people who come two hours early will let you squeeze into his place? Nope. You should put in some effort. Nobody owes you a position in the crowd.
it is not about whether you are late or early for the event. It is about the people WITH LADDERS and their lack of consideration for others.

this is not even a valid comparison.

a more valid comparison is, i went to attend a linkin park concert, and when i was late, the people at the front had all set up their ladders and i couldn't see anything except their butts.

based on your logic, then whoever arrives first has a stool, whoever arrives next needs a ladder, the third wave should be carrying higher ladders, and the last to come should arrive with their cranes?

    i don't know, i really don't see a need to jostle. it's not even a war.

i remember getting my toes stepped on by numerous people. some didn't even notice that they did it, some said sorry. i felt like telling them that in the first place, if they were more aware that others existed, there would be no need to say sorry.

Yea I totally agree with you. People should really be more aware of the surrounding people around them.

if you have a ladder why do you need to be in front row?

you want front row? can but ladder stays at the back row.

this is a situation... whereby lazy photographer who can't bother to come early for the show falsely accuse and condenmed all those who using the ladders. from the way the thread go on...it doesn't even matter if they are at 1st or 2nd row or had given way to the old and invalids...as long as they are on ladders...they will be labeled names by the 'righteous mobs' here.

i think all shouldn't use ladder, period.

unless they are authorised by the show to do so, then fine.

See, this is the issue. Why is it that competitive? What is there to get competitive about? A few good looking girls with dodgy backgrounds, no space to breath nevermind compositional freedom, poor lighting, etc?

Why queue 2 hours or 3 hours and bring stepladders and all that?

That's what I want to know.

Whoops, you missed the boat on this one. Do read carefully about the unhappiness TS was talkin about, and it's definitely nothing to do with competing for the front-row vantage points vis-a-vis other photographers.
