Talking Pan FZ10 or Canon S1

Which is the better buy? Panasonic FZ10 or Canon S1 IS?
I'm kinda incline towards the S1, it being small and handy and full of features.
Currently I'm using an FZ1v2 (1 week+ already) and hasn't got any satisfying photos out of it yet.

I guess the answer depends very much on what is your needs.

FZ10 - 4MP, 35-420mm f/2.8 with Optical Image Stabilizer, and Leica lens

While the S1 IS - 3.2MP, 38-380mm f/2.8-3.1 Image Stablizer, and NOT L lens.

Given a choice, I would pick FZ10, with wider lens.

I would pick Z10 too as it has hotshoe for external flash.

I guess one of the features that I find extremely useful for my FZ10 would be its live histogram, for one to check exposure while shooting... this features if I am not wrong is not available in canon digi cams as yet...

I think the Canon S1 has histogram too. Apart from hotshoe, it has everything the FZ10 got and more. Plus point is, it uses AA batteries and CF (>2GB is possible since it read FAT32). I've the FZ1v2 and is still waiting to be impressed by Leica lense.
Maybe it the setting thingy, but I'll put it thru its pace this weekend and see if I'll go for FZ10 or S1.

dunno what cheap means to you but if you gf is worth $800+ you can get her this Canon S1 Image Stabiliser 10X Optic 3.2x Digital DSC. Reviews are impressive BUT nothing beats real-life-use evaluation (read, ppl who thinks f2.8 is the distance in feet between both legs when taking pictures).

what i meant was "live histogram" not just histogram... live histogram meaning you are able to see the exposure in record mode... not only in preview mode...

personally i feel the plus point of S1 over FZ10 would be the use of AA batts (but contributes to some extra weight) and of course CF cards would be cheaper than SD cards, on top of these is its swivel LCD and higher quality recording mode... besides that I think on paper the rest of the specs favours the FZ10... take note that FZ10 has a bigger CCD and a better and bigger LCD display as well as EVF....

pics quality wise... not too sure.. have not seen much posting of S1 pics though it is sold out at many places

Have not tried the S1. But I simply love the Pan Z10. Yes, the "live" histogram is fantastic. It has helped me, a newbie to photography, to have correct exposure. The pics are rally sharp and accurate......mayb it's the leica lens.

However, at 12x zoom, it is not too clear but at 10X (which is the same zoom as S1), it is very sharp

Not quite true about the 12x zoom not too clear. I had taken a lot of pics with 12x zoom, and it created a "WOW" effect when friends and hobbists look at those photos.

Some sample that you can view:

More will be coming up in my galleries will be coming up soon...
