Default types of lenses

frm the nikon website i have a few questions
AF-S DX 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED[NEW] LIST PRICE : SIN$2700
AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED LIST PRICE : SIN$3600

why is 17-35 more expensive than 17-55?

what is IF ?

AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF ED [NEW] LIST PRICE : SIN$3800
AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8D IF-ED LIST PRICE : SIN$3800

what's the diff between G and D lenses? AF and AF-S lens? then what is ED-II ?

Actually your answers can be found in the nikon website itself..
from the page you found the lens price.. click on all about nikkor lenses..
http://www.nikon.com.sg/PRODUCT/LENS...onLensTech.htm
IF = Internal Focusing
AF-S Nikkors feature Nikon's Silent Wave Motor which converts "travelling waves" into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.
D-type Nikkors relay subject-to-camera distance information to AF Nikon camera bodies. This then makes possible advances like 3D Matrix Metering and 3D MultiSensor Balanced Fill-Flash.
Not too sure what is IF-ED II, perhaps the II means version 2 of the lens itself and got nothing to do with ED at all..

Specific answer to this is that the 17-55 is a DX lens. That is, it was designed to be used on DSLRs and it cannot be used on a film body, although you can still mount it and take a picture. It is a smaller lens with a smaller image circle, thus more compact and easier to build compared with the 17-35 f2.8 which was designed for film bodies right up front.

Thus, the price difference.
