As the SB800 pre-flash is much stronger, its also much more noticable and enough to cause your subjects to blink their eyes just in time for the main flash, which may caused closed eyes.
I'm resorting to the AA mode, which seems pretty cool and accurate. And no pre-flash. So much for iTTL technology .. I just get very accurate photos of closed eyes. |

Try changing your shutter speed. I've never had problems in the past with previous SBs that fired preflashes, and I'm not having any problems with the SB800 either, nor do I think the preflash is any stronger than standard DTTL. Or standard 3D TTL either for that matter.

Hmm. Really? Documented where? (Serious question, not challenging.) And DTTL preflash was already completely visible, so I'd be surprised if it made a difference. And as for DPReview, well the less said about the forums there the better.

Are you using rear curtain sync with iTTL?

Rear curtain will only make it more obvious. Front curtain will still see the effect. The I-TTL really looks to me like a "red eye" reduction fash. By the way, how to disable the pre flash for the internal flash unit? |

After more than a week and with some posts, have you got your solution?
You may want to try FV Lock, which reduces pre-flashes, and solve the blinking eyes problems that you'll find particularly affecting some people. I also find this feature to be very useful for multiple shots of the same set.

FV Lock will disable Pre-Flash. This is refering to D70 Guide by THom Hogan. But the the distance between Flash and subject must not be changed.. ![]() Last edited by IMY; 14th June 2004 at 06:54 PM. |
