Guys, just realised that the SB80DX is so highend external flash
And not very sure is it overkilled if attach to my poor CP5700. Care to recommend alternative flash for multipurpose? Btw, are those external flash compatible with all Nikon Cam (CoolPix and dSLR)? Thanks for your advise. Cheers! ST.

I second modensalim on the choice of SB800.
It would be an overkill though, since only the A mode & M mode of the SB-80DX/SB-800 works on the CP5700, zoom, aperture will need to be manually input into the flash settings before shooting, normally I just set to f/2.8 and fire off with about 85mm zoom. If you don't foresee yourself upgrading to D70, maybe the SB-80DX is a good choice, but the TTL will not work on CP5700, it's only psuedo TTL, the AF-Assist on the SB-80DX also will not work on the CP5700. I'm still pleased with my ex-SB-80DX on my ex-CP5700. Price might be a factor to come into consideration here. SB-800 (new): $650 SB-80DX (new): $520 SB-80DX (2nd Hand): $400 The SB-8* series are recommended as they don't hinder the popup flash of the CP5700, the metering & psuedo TTL is still calculated by the popup flash so the flash will still need to popup when using the external flash. If you do foresee yourself upgrading to a Nikon DSLR (apart from D100), go for SB-800, as the future DSLRs will be featuring the Nikon CLS & Nikon i-TTL. D100 uses the D-TTL on the SB-80DX which SB-800 also offers, in short, you've nothing to lose if you go the SB-800 way. ![]() |

Yes. At the moment price is an issue. Don't think I'll upgrade to D70 soon unless strike 4D
Or when my photography skill improve and found the limit is at 5700, then its time for upgrading lor... Hmm... if only left SB80DX to choose... have to save hard now... Btw, what is wireless Flash huh? Cheers! ST.

That means you'll be upgrading sooner later right? I told myself the exact same thing also... look what happened?
![]() On a serious note, my advice to you is, since you're going to upgrade, get the SB-800, i-TTL should be here to stay, for a while ![]() |

Don't know if I should wait or go for the SB800 for the D70. Currently using a Metz on Auto. Feel very limited as even with the appropriate SCA cannot get TTL. |

My feel is that it's an affordable flash for D70 users, one that provides i-TTL & CLS. It won't arrive that fast I think
really don't know what Nikon is doing. A lot of D70 users are waiting for the SB-600.The use and justification on the SB-800 and SB-600 varies from people to people, for casual shooters I presume the SB-600 is more than sufficient, I would recommend the SB-800 though for it's fast recharging time and higher GN (of course lah, which I need ) Basically what I feel is that it's just a cheaper flash for everyday shooters, just like D70, a cheaper DSLR for everyday shooters. The SB-800 was intended to compliment the D2H, the SB-600 for the D70. A cheaper option for those that don't need what the SB-800 can offer. If you can't wait... get a SB-800 loh...Buy buy buy!!! |

Hmm... if SB600 is the cheaper version and it has about the same features from SB800, That should be "the one" for me
![]() Btw, what is wireless flash huh?? (I'm still not familiar with Flash technology yet )Thanks for all reply. Cheers! ST.

Not exactly similar to the SB-800, but a hyped down version for the basic consumers that don't need a powerful flash like the SB-800
![]() Wireless flash is something like triggering the flash remotely using the camera, you can place 2 SB-800s at 2 different locations and fire the internal flash on your D70, both flash will get triggered. With D70 & D2H, CLS occurs. No wires involved, like the Nikon cables. All done wirelessly. Get arikevin to post one of the shots we did with 3 SB-800s that night at Chijmes, it was done with a D70 and CLS. 2 handheld, 1 was using the AS19 stand and triggered with the D70's internal flash. I'm taking the term literally I not good at explaining technical jargon.Hmm I never did notice if the FEC was not shown on the SB-800 or not, I think it did, but I'm not using D70, perhaps BeachBoy can do a test on his setup and confirm? |
