So why not study harder so that you can get into university? Or are you telling me you have already given up?

And from your other thread, it seems that you're trying to earn money to buy a 50/1.8 prime lens. So may I ask, what do you intend to achieve with the 50mm that you cannot achieve with your 18-200VR?

i am still wondering how a 50mm prime will help you get into stock.

the other day someone was making a lot of noise in pentax section about how kit lens and k10d were probably not good enough for stock.

i happily dug out quite a number of stock photos with exif that showed even k100d with kit lens being used.

the 18-200 VR + d90 not good enough for stock?

even d70 with this lens is accepted.

btw, what people say here is correct, a levels is not here not there........ if you plan to stop at a levels, better to get a diploma.

Hi, Concentrate on study full time instead of partime job to earn and fund equipment as in the long run, u still stand to lose. e.g. Study for degree first, add more degrees if u can and over a few years, your return will bear fruits instead of spending to earn little to fund your hobby. Image if you have B.Sc (Hons) M.Sc and M.E. and PHD in any disciple, u are on the road to a successful person though u have to sacrifice enjoyment for a few years. If u can do that, u have achieve something which very few people have.

    Hi TS,

Respect your decision to fund your own gear! Like the others said I dun think a 50mm prime will do much to change what you can shoot. A flashgun on the other hand might be more useful! I'd suggest you work towards that FIRST.

I just bought my first dslr about less than 4 weeks back. I normally shoot landscapes and architecture so I have a handy tripod! I passed on a flashgun but realised the limitations when shooting in low-light/indoors or people - which i think i will shoot from time to time.

I'm 10 years older than you are, 3rd yr undergrad, but budget wise I'm as constrained as you are haha! students are students regardless uni or sec (i think i was better off in sec sch with all the bursary awards - $500 every year lol!). I say you enjoy what you have ba - after all many people here already mentioned that your gear is pretty good le! Put in effort to read and study on flash photography and lighting before you actually get it - get a headstart - which is what I'm doing! Working towards a Di866 or a 580EX II by Jun. Friends or books or internet or the library is

I agree with the lao jiaoz - focus on your study and at least work your way towards a diploma at least, or better, a degree. Something to fall back on. The world is very practical. Keep the hobby a hobby for now and take time to build up your portfolio (i think everything i say to you applies to me!). Experiment with things like this (jus built in flash)
    http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...5&l=202525f473,
try shooting weather, try whatever. Plenty of things to do with what you have. Not saying you don't work toward your goal!

Wish you all the best(and myself included) - in finding a nice/ok paying holiday job. Bonus if it's photography related
ps - i think ts got more photography experience than me - ban men nong fu LOL

Hi TS, I really admire the way you think...you are so mature and I am sure your parents will be pleased to know that...Anyway, I am not sure if it's me or what, I do feel like you wana gather "all needed equipment" so that you can learn seriously...

If you think you need a flash now...go work part time and get a flash, use it and learn the different settings/tricks that you can until you grown out of it, then get other equipment.... I really think your equipment list is more than decent to indulge yourself in learning already...rather than keep thinking of getting more equipment...there's no end to getting more equipment...
