    The light is very dim.
I can't have Tripod going around the track.
    I had set shutter 1/60, ISO 1600, F 3.5 ( my lens max)

    Things you can try:
    pump ISO higher
    pan
    rent a fast lens

If your setup and lighting limit you to 1/60s, panning sounds like a good idea.

    Other things you could try:
    - position yourself where the karts have to slow down - sharp corners (karts are amazingly quick through corners though)
    - shoot from straight ahead / behind -- less blurring than across your frame, but 1/60 may still be too slow
    - wait for them to break down!

    First u have to get a 50mm f1.4 or 50mm f1.8.
then you have to have a flash.
put the ISO on 1600 (or 3200) (whatever is the maximum for usable pictures)
and turn on your flash. that should be fine for dim light shooting, and that's what I use, and I still get decent shutter speeds. also, turn your flash compensation to +2

I don't think 50mm is enough to use for 'sports/speed' shots as he indicated.

then get 85mm f1.8 or rent 85mm f1.2L and no, the driver won't be blinded if you shoot from the side, but if it is up front he might crash

to stop any action, your shutter speed need to be 1/500 and above,
the existing lighting level is already that low,
there is nothing much you can do except increase ISO.

hmm maybe if you go buy a D3s, ISO 25600 with 85mm f1.2

I suggest a simpler way to fake it... -EV to get the "iso speed" and recover in PP...no guarantee of good result though...

oh, forget to mention that i cannot use flash.
Bcos i am at the track. near shot.

Unless i am far away from track , then i can take photos w flash.
1/500, is almost total darkness at that night track.

without flash, you can't haev enough light to illuminate your subject unless you are using the same type/amount of lighting for the tracks as the f1 race.

Always remember, in low light, you'd need either a larger aperture or a longer shutter speed. If you need to change one of these aspects, you'd need to balance up.

suggest to organiser to use stronger light?

what i would do is wait at areas that are fairly well lit and then make the most of any opportunity that pass by. sometimes is like that one.
You wont see me much less remember me but i am the guy who makes you look good.

Try panning with a fast prime, say 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8 or 135 f/2(might be a bit too tight for your 350D though). Bump up ISO to 1600 or 3200, use shutter speed 1/30 or 1/40...

    Good luck!

Wait for the Sony NEX 3/5.

You can shoot with ISO 12,800.
