The limiteds and *star lenses are equivalently good at more reasonable prices.
I say the lens is the soul of a camera. What about the body? Well, it's just the body...

To each his own. No wrong decision here. Just preferences, costs involved and value.

Sorry, but a blanket statement like 'L' glass is good does not make a good argument. Firstly, 'L' lenses only mean high physical build quality. It does not always mean its optically better than non L lenses. There are great L lenses and they are poor ones as well.
There are great sample photographs from all camera makes and the lens only represent a small function of the whole equation.
Don't forget that 'L's are also expensive, big and heavy.

Each brand has its high end equivalent to the 'L' from Canon. For Pentax it would be the * lenses. You get good build standard, weather sealing, HSM, and good optical performance.

Here is a sample of prices from the price section :
Though they are not directly the same in focal lengths covered per lens, the price difference is pretty clear. (These are EF lenses of course, since there are no 'L' in EF-S)

    EF 16-35mm f2.8L II USM - $2999 (RRP) | $2400 (JO, Mar09) | $2350 (MS, Apr10) | $2388 (SLRR, Dec09) | $2400 (CP-M, Mar10)
    EF 17-40mm f4L USM - $1449 (RRP) | $1155 (PA-C w/GST Apr09) | $1160 (AP-F, Aug09) | $1170 (JO, Sep09) | $1090 cash (CP-P, w/ GST, Sep09) | $1170 nets (TK, w/ GST, Sep09) | $1145 (MS, w/ GST, Jan19) | $1156 (SLRR, w/ GST, Dec09) | $1150 (OP, Jan10)
    EF 24-105mm f4L IS USM - $2199 (RRP) | $1580 (OP, w/GST, May09) | $1740 (CP-M, w/ GST, Jul09) | $1750 (TCW, w/ GST, Jul09) | $1745 (PA-HV, w/ GST, Jul09) | $1650 (MS, Nov09) | $1650 (JO, w/ GST, Dec09) | $1770 (AP-S, w/ GST, Apr10)
    EF 28-300mm f3.5-5.6L IS USM - $4599 (RRP) | $2900 (CP)
    EF 70-200mm f2.8L USM - $2399 (RRP) | $1950 (OP, Apr09) | $1969 (CP, Apr09) | $1980 (MS, Jun09) | $1990 (CP-M, Aug09) | $1960 (JO, Sep09)
    EF 70-200mm f4L USM - $1399 (RRP) | $1050 (CP-M, Aug09) | $1099 (MS, w/ GST, Dec09) | $1180 (JO, Dec09)

I would not go as far as saying that they are the same. Pros and cons here and there between the two. Different pricing as well.
You get quite a bit for the price you pay for a K7.

Yup pros/cons as well as price . If you ask me k-7 or 7d i will choose 7d for myself
Thats what i wanted at first but its over my budget and when i saw pentax k-7 its was a good alternative

If my budget allows i would have still wanted a 7d

uhh yeah both are semi pro.. i was thinking k-7 is more comparable to 50D because they're more close with regards to specs and price, although K-7 and 7D's release date are more close. pricing? 7D is far more expensive

Hey thanks for the pricelist for pentax lenses, the only L lens i look up to is 135mm fixed focal f/2.0, other than that, i may try 3rd party...

Wait for later K series to be out? maybe K-9/11?, K-7 imo cheapest magnesium alloy body among the latest release, which is why i considered it to a great deal.

My personal opinion is exactly this. If I want to pay the money and endure the heavy/large lenses of CnN, it has to be for the fastest glass (even if its just a tad faster). Otherwise no point for the hassle when Pentax can give the same lens for cheaper/lighter/smaller.

BTW, FYI, Pentax does have an A*135/1.8

Yes Pentax have L glass, but it is the one which is bundled with k-x. means it is the kit lenses.

but there are upper range lenses for pentax, the star(*) lenses. depending on the generation of lenses it has pro build, SDM and weathersealed for recent models.
    A*
    FA*
    DA*

there are also limiteds, FA limiteds and DA limiteds, which is mostly metal bodied ones and boasts very good IQ.
    I dunno!!!
    It's banana-zero-neh. :)

iirc most ppl regard those star (*) lenses from pentax more optically superior than the top lenses from other makers..

Ah. Can forget about A*135. Highly elusive. Even if you can find second hand, be prepared for some $1.8-2k. And it's a manual focus too. BUT.... It's a god-like lens!!!

Yeah, it looks "not tat nice" nor cool. But mind you, this is one heck of a lens. You probably need to be a Pentaxian long enough to be able to recognise it. Else, if you see it on street, you may think it is some old school cheap lens. It has a cousin too, the A*85mm.

On the A*85, here is an interesting one :
    http://www.16-9.net/lens_tests/pentax85/index.html

The A series seems to have some of the most unique lenses from Pentax (50/1.2, 85/1.4, 135/1.8, and a very small 300/4)

Nice one, pinholecam. Yeah manz, somehow I love Pentax A series best, in terms of design and built. And they are not all built the same - surprise? The 1.2, 85* and 135* are the creme of crop of the A series - in built and optical quality. Much tougher to complete than say the FA limiteds (in silver). Lol.
