Default Charges for School Class Photos

    Hi all,

What is the usual practice if any on a school engaging a photographer to take the year end class photo and individual student's photo? Will the school get some percentage of the sales of the photos?

    Thanks and appreciate any input.

You may do a search, this topic was discussed here say 1 or 2 years ago.

Anyway, long time give up due to cut throat price by some.

Unless u run a photo lab, it is unlikely u are going to get much margin out of the hard work u put in. Done that before but realize not worth the hard work and derive very little satisfaction from the whole process.

is not easy to get into it.

people try to get into it by offer lower price or the previous photographer screw upped.

and people get out also for the same reasons as above.

if you really want to do it, go and find out what happen to the last year class photos and provide a better solution, there is no use of asking how much to charge and it does not address the school needs.

This is a real reflection on how tough this business is.

    Hello

There are a few companies servicing school class photos. Some of them offer free staff & class photos and earn solely on print sales. It's a 100% commodity based business. Some schools (especially nurseries) will negotiate for a cut.

Yes this is what I've been told by some teachers (in government schools).
$$$ is from prints. May work differently for independent schools.
