Default Camera bag for Pan FZ10

In order to keep Lens protector on, lens hood has to be on, thus making the camera a little longish. Any idea what bag to buy to fit it comfortably. the one MS Color recommends is the traingular shape one but takes makes the LCD at the top - kind of unprotected and risk of scratches. With the LCD screen protector on, the monitor is not so sharp.

Please advise and let me know where to get it too.

Hi pawpet,

I am a FZ10 user too. I have bought this triangular camera bag for my FZ10 from Carrefour for $15. Is is not a branded bag, but it definitely serve its purpose well. The camera with its lens adaptor fits just nicely into the bag, and there is a front pocket to keep extra batteries or SD cards. Maybe you can check it out.

As for the LCD screen protector, my FZ10 have it since Day 1. I am not so sure if the LCD display is affected. In my own opinion, I would say that it is better to protect the LCD screen than to compromise any damage or scratches to the screen. Afterall, you could still use the EVF to check the pictures, & using the EVF also save more power.

I hope this is helpful to you. Anyway, I am also still new to photography & my FZ10. Do share your personal experience when using the FZ10, and we can all learn to handle our FZ10 better.

Cheers.

Default screen protector

Malamute 72,

What brand of LCD protector is yours?? Becos mine is translucent - hence affect the image on LCD - not so clear . I normally use the LCD to shoot becos it is easier.

From manual, it is advised that when shooting in flash mode, shld remove lens hood - do you do that??

I think the lens hood will cast a shadow when doing closeup with flash. Have u thought of getting a lens adapter which will support more readily available TC and filters?

I read somewhere you can get lens adapter that has a 55mm thread size. This means u can buy closeup/uv/polarizer filters or even teleconvertor like tcon-17 that has this size. If I am not wrong, 55mm size filters are more easily available and cheaper(?) than 72mm ones.

Yep, the lens hood (aka lens adaptor) do cast a shadow when doing closeup with flash. But if you are not shooting a near object/subject, I don't think the lens hood would affect the picture that you have taken. Anyway, if you are taking closeup photos, it is not advisable to use flash, because the pictures will turn out overexposed.

When I used the flash to take indoor pictures, I usually dun remove the lens adaptor. When I take closeup pictures in macro mode, I usually dun use the flash. I would use another light source and/or tripod, in case if I need longer exposure time. This is my own personal experience, & I hope it helps.

As for the LCD screen protector, I can't remeber the brand already. But it is definitely transparent, not translucent like yours. You can easily find the LCD protector in most shops in Funan or Sim Lim. Should not cost more than $10 per packet. Maybe you can search the older threads in this forum and find more details on the LCD protector.

The lens adaptor that shutterfly mentioned is probably the Yoshida adaptor from Japan. You can order online, I think from their website, but I think it is quite expensive. It cost around 5500 to 6000 yen, if I am not wrong, & that is not inclusive of shipping charges yet. So it will work out to be around $100 for the lens adaptor, & it will definitely cost more than the price difference between 55mm filters and 72mm filters. I guess it not worth it unless you want to attached wide angle or telephoto lens to the camera.

The cost of a 72mm UV filter is about $15, which is not much more than that of a 55mm UV filter. Got mine from AP. UV filter can also double up as a lens protector, especially when taking outdoor pictures. So I would recommend it, but it is still up to your individual preferences.

Cheers.

Any idea if there is a step down ring adapter 72->55mm so that it can accept teleconvertors like TC0N17?

Do you really want to step it down so much?? Note that it would cause a lot of vignetting problem if you do so...

Anyway, it is possible to do it stepwise. If you really want, you can always step-down from 72-68, 68-62, 62-58 and 58-55. Each ring is relatively cheap at less than $10.
