Default BG-ED3 problems

My BG-ED3 batt grip (which I bought 2nd hand) has been permanently attached to my 10D body and had been working fine until now, I just found that the shutter release and main dial on the grip fail to work, although the batts/power supply seem fine. (Yes I made sure the switch on the grip was "on", even tried switching it on/off several times, also disconnect/reconnect the grip from the body but doesn't work either). Strangely, the two buttons on the grip (FEL and AF point selection buttons) still work fine. I suspect it might be a connection problem. Anyone else encounter the same problem? And how much does it cost to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Have you tried wiping the contacts? Could be some dust.

rncw U sponsor me lar.

Kit: Thanks for the suggestion, yes I looked closely at the contacts, they are clean, no dust or dirt on them. Seldom detach the batt grip from the body anyways. It was working fine all along until now.

Newbie123: Oic. Ur grip 2nd hand also rite? This could be a problem with the older batt grips, but not sure. How about those who bought their grips new together/after buying their 10D? Any feedback?

Same here. The shutter button is not very reliable on the vertical grip. Specifically, you can half-press and autofocus, but sometimes it refuses to fire even when full-pressed.

I got my grip new with my 10D. I did encounter this problem once, where the shutter release on the grip failed to work when pressed... and at the most crucial moment too. In a fit of anger, I swung the camera (with the grip attached) against the wall beside me and it has been working fine ever since.

You'll got a BIG temper...that's a $3-4K piece of delicate electronic equipment we're talking about...

Luckily no problem...otherwise your head will be the one banging against the wall....

try cleaning the contact and if all fails, see if Canon or TCW will be able to fix it... or worse comes to worst: there always the 1D mkII

the connections in the battery grip should be fairly simple to fix.

I have fixed some older grips and most of them are just loose soldering.

I would offer to help but now exam period.......

If you're not in any rush, I can give it a look after my exams.

Let me know.
