there's not much to see in the sky, i wander why you have to include so much of it in the shot... the building right in the middle seems a bit tilted, too many bright lights that distracts attention towards the subject?(no subject, sorry). nothin much to see in the river as well, could've used long exposure to make it look silky at least. the exposure is ok, but overall, it's too cluttered (with lights, people, and empty spaces). just my 2cents though.

    keep shooting bro!
    Why so serious... Son?

Alright.. i got some things to say.

Personally, this is not a good photo to me. Don't feel dishearten, cos i rather tell u my truest comment. This photo got no main subject. what are you trying to show from this photo? Building?Boat? Nothing interesting, and everything is just clumped together. So we tend to lost interest to this foto.

Also, there are some composition techniques that u can fully make full use off in shooting this foto. Unfortunately u nv make full use of them... Things like leading lines and so on.. Stand abit further to the left, make the central building as the subject then at least u gotta different perspective.

U see, left side is clarke quay, right side is "central" thingy. My personal preference is to chose one. Be more decisive on what u wanna take yeah? Dont cluster everything together. Its Confusing.

    Cheers!!

    Sure, somemore...

    * The image here looking a bit soft /blur somewhat.

    * The proper crop ( as what / how I would frame it ).
Avoiding the dark tongkang on the left. Starting from the MICA building, including the
Swisshotel some blue sky, towards the right chop off before the CENTRAL signage,
include more of the river reflection. More like a 1 : 1 composition.

As this is only " salvaging " the photo, after the new cropping, quality might suffers.
    Have a try and compare.

    Good attempt.

    (1) Somewhat empty.
    (2) Too much sky.
    (3) Too dark.
    (4) No contrast.
    (5) Too cluttered.

This photo looks like a snapshot and nothing else.

good attempt. your picture can still be salvaged. and if you dont mind i have cropped your picture.

    my comments:
    a. i have cropped your pic into panaroma (you can judge whether it is nicer) and the excessive sky and building.
    b. too much weight on the right side (see the picture #1 vs #2 in terms of the volume, 1 has more weight). the eyes will go where the weight is if that is your intention.
    c. river has no depth (see #4. it will be nice to see the reflections if the river is deeper)
    d. the boat is not lighted up is kind of an eyesore (see #3 of the picture). generally night pictures are about lights.

    what i would do is
    a. wait for boat to go by and capture it with a slower shutter speed
    b. shoot from either bank and focus on the activities but not of both banks otherwise becomes too cluttered
    c. wait for night to fall
    d. use a longer exposure and bring out the vibrancy of the lights

interesting how all the comments on his Flickr site are positive...

But really... the image doesn't synch with the title, which says "night LIFE at Singapore River".... but there's no night life along the river, beside the people sitting along the river bank.
    Exploring! :)

You have been browsing the nite scene section, so you should have known better.

    Good comment.
I will say the sharpness is good enough for me. But the composition is nothing here nor there. As being pointed out by pokiemon, his suggestion is good. As for composition, might want to try shoot from lower angle too.

Sincere and honest crit, are sometimes difficult to swallow, especially for beginners.
Do not be blurred by those thumbs up and wow nice shot comment, they are just to blur your vision.
With points taken up here, your next shooting will surely improve.

Luckily, one master of nite scene aka the goat did not dropby, otherwise you'll get bleat bleat...

    I feel ...

This is a rather cluttered picture... too many things attempting to gain attention at any one time... TS will need to decide what is important in this picture.... composition still matters in any picture

And there are so many positive comments in flickr !!!

    Keep shooting !!!
I probably collect lenses more than I take pictures

hahaha, i like it when someone says be prepared to receive a lot of negative comments.
Anyway, i think all the comments have to made. Nothing much to add.
Just keep shooting, dont take these comments too much at heart.
Maybe at times less is more. Include lesser in the picture to make it more interesting
