When the heat is up, competition getting fierce, people out of their wit, will commit anything even to the risk of committing crime, breaking the law, ethics is the last thing on their mind or never exist in the first place.
even when i'm on a shoot, on the job, i dun go out farming out my name card unless i'm asked for it. i just feel it's disrespectful to my clients. the clients are the ones who are paying for my services and i should have their interest at heart first because to me during those hours of engagement i represent my clients.
one good thing has come out of this. immediately after the event that night the client reaffirmed their commitment to continue working with me in front of the staff and big boss. while i know they use other photog occasionally i know i shoot for them often enough. to top it all off, the following day i had another shoot with the same client and they told me that it was okay for me to increase my rates for them.
--- the only constant is evolution and change ---
--- the only solution is adaptation ---
haha it was ok to increase the price. Think your client is a big company and dont really care about the payment. My boss once asked for a 5K price and the amount just flew across my clients mind and immediately say " ohh ok " then he continue talking about other things.
Damn if its 5K for my wedding i would think 30 or 50 times man...
These are the rippers or aka hungry ghost of the trade. They are more concern about, hardware, price undercutting, etc.
They did not realise that, to be a successful photographer or whatever trade one is in....good rapport, character, mannerism, personal charisma, quality of works, punctuality in work and delivery, creativity, innovative, artistic sense, team player are some of the essential which cannot be rip off.
speaking abt code of conduct and ethics, what do you guys think of this - if you are the official photog and you hire a back up/second photog and this guy starts distributing his name cards (whether asked or marketing himself) at the event?
While visiting customers and representing company A he try to give out he own name card, intro himself as company B spokeman selling product "A".
What you think of this?
if he is there as a guest, and tries to pretend that he is associated with the official photographer, then that is horrible.
if he is a GATECRASHER, then that is plain desperate. it sends the wrong signal to everyone when the truth is out, because it just means that he needs business, cannot get business, and needs to resort to such means to get work. if anything he should learn that this is negative more than positive.
i would expect a certain code of conduct from him to respect this relationship. any leads from the event or queries should be referred back to me. in no way, should he represent himself.
wonder if bowwow has the picture of the gate crasher...
