Isn't this feature long implemented in iPhone via the MobileMe Service?

This could be a viral marketing stunt by Apple since they are known to intentionally leaked information on purpose so as to generate publicity and elicit responses from their current and potential consumers.

If it wasn't, Apple would probably sue Gizmodo either for misappropriation of mislaid property and diverging trade secrets or failing to turn in mislaid property to the authorities.

i also think it's a publicity stunt by Apple. they want to get people talking about the 4G, they then deny all rumours and then they launch the product ala iPad. Apple likes to create this sort of fanfare and they know people will bite the bait.

In fact, I'm quite surprised Gizmodo's not the one who posted e Email but forward to http://www.macrumors.com. Think about it.

Anyway... I was so surprised it appeared on our local newpaper too. Front pg no less. Must be a slow news day.

    Gizmodo did publish the email.

    URL source:

Macrumours got link that article to Gizmodo.

If you do not believe, what is the counter theory?

But what good will it do to Apple?

Won't it create a no-surprise during the actual launch day itself?

    Here.

Photos of the so called "iPhone 4G prototype" have been floating around the internet since February. Could be just one of those many, many, many Chinese counterfeits modified to be almost "authentic".

But this doesn't explain a lot of things. No need to go very far, just take this dissection of iPhone 4G into its components for example.

    Photos of all the components:

I can't think of any alternative explanation, except that this is a true prototype.

was the iPad a surprise? there were rumours and speculations leading to its launch. comon, Apple loves this kind of publicity. it gives them some kind of satisfaction that people pay close attention to their products.

btw, i'm a Mac and iPhone user.

So much fuss over a mere phone.

Those insiders at Apple are probably laughing their socks off by now.
