Default How many shots can a new 10D do?

Hi guys,

How many shots can a 10D's shutter do? I heard every dSLR's shutter can do a limited number of shots, so what happen after a 10D's shutter reached its limit? Camera die?

I bought a second hand 10D and found out it already shot 140000 shots! Is there a reconditioning or changing of the shutter service in Canon service Centre?

The limit is the estimate mean amount before the shutter loses it's accuracy in the shutter timings.

The shutter can die anytime, doesn't have to be after the 50K mark or anything.

A F5 was stated 150K, but it lost the accuracy in timing at 1million+ counts.

are you sure 140,000 shots? How did u find that?

I thought D60 or 10D shutter can take around 50,000 shots. shutter replacement for 10D/D60 is about 100+, not v expensive.

The shutter can be replaced, so no prob.

But 140,000!!!

The 10D was released Feb '03, meaning that unless this was pre-production copy, it is at most 14 months old. That's 10,000 per month, or a consistent average of 300+ shots per day, everyday, for more than a year. i would really like to meet the photographer who sold it to you and find out what he was shooting.

Factoring in postprocessing, printing, and other life's activities like socializing, eating, sleeping, etc, this is one dedicated photographer.

BTW, are you sure it's 140,000, not 14,000?

Do you post process and print every single shot you take?

No. But i do at least look through everything i've shot, and the selection process itself is considered part of the 'post-shooting' (or post-processing) workflow; ie, there is time and effort required even just sieving through the pics.

I think that guy just brought it to Canon Service centre for servicing before he sell it to you. The service centre will accumulate the counter lah

A pro may shoot that much. I used to shoot on average 3 to 5 rolls a day on my working days, depending on the assigment. i.e. 100 to 180 shots. On some jobs, I have to shoot up to 10 rolls in 5/6 hrs.
Now with DSLR, photographers tends to shhot even more, so that they can select the better ones. I have lesser assignments now, but on each job, I will fire off around 300 to 450 shots, thats all my 2 512M CF card can take. And I will select around 300 gd ones for clients.
