Default Canon A40 "E24" error message

I have recently enountered this error message "E24" when i try to start up my A40. When I switch on the camera in any of the shooting modes, the lens will extend but it will retract automatically shortly after. And the error message is displayed. I have actually contacted canon customer service and they told me it's a component fault and i have to sent the camera for them to check which they will charge me $60 service charge (excluding cost of replacement, GST and etc...)

Has anyone faced the similiar problem before and is there anyway to remedy this problem? How much would such repair cost add up to? I think if it actually cost quite a bit then i might as well get a new camera then to send it for repair. I really need some advice on this. Thanks.

I have actually sent in my A40 for repair last tuesday and i just got a call from them today. I m actually quite angry on the reply that they have given me.

Over the phone, the customer service personnel told me that he did not experienced the fault that i have mentioned but told me that he suspect that the ccd sensor is fault which causes it unable to take pictures. I was quite puzzled by what he said cos the girl at the desk have actually examined and verified the error that i have mentioned(the e24 error message) And now he told me that he didnt see it. Is the guy trying to be funny or what? He told me that he need to order in the part to replace the faulty one before he can proceed to check for other things as they have ran out of that particular component. Then this ccd sensor actually cost $96! I cant imagine how much would it cost me when they actually get my camera repaired. Does anyone has any idea on the price of a ccd sensor in the digital camera?

If i would to proceed with the repair it would probably cost me btw $100-$200 and i might as well get a new camera. My this A40 only cost me ard $300+. I really see no point to proceed for repair and now i may have to bear the service charge for sending in my camera for testing. I felt kind of cheated by the customer service personnel at canon. Does anyone have similiar experience?

Default "E24" Error message

I too have a this E24 error message from my canon powershot A40. I used to tap it on the table and could get it to work for a while, however that has since stopped working.. Did you end up just buying a new camera?
