hi everybody,
having used EF70-200 F4 for a while.. i really could do with a longer range w/o buying another len... thinking of getting one of the above to be used on it... any one tried? how's the quality? and also for 1.4X, i won't lose AF but for 2X will lose AF? The guy in Camera workshop told me need to tape up some contacts? how is it done and is it safe for the camera and len? is quality very bad? anyone tried the cheaper Teleplus one from Cathay? the former cost almost twice as the teleplus ones... any input greatly appreciated . thank you, Michael |

Well, a cheap 2x will cost $70-$200, while a good one will set you back $300-$700 thereabouts.
If you get a cheap one, you're likely not to use the convertor more than half a dozen times. If you get a good one, well, at that price, you might as well get a cheap or third party 75-300 zoom - faster, and better quality than a L + 2x combo. |

i use the orginal canon 1.4xII. Have tried it on 70-200/2.8L, 135/2L, 200/2.8L - not sure if it'll fit the 70-200/4L. Quality drop is usually not noticeable. Not sure about other brand's 1.4x TC.

hi, yeah.. that's what i was afraid too... i do have one of those 75-300 non usm no is canon zoom.. not good at all.. very soft... and since i already got a 70-200 F4... thot i get a TC to increase it's range while preserving some of the quality... some degradation is expected... what's more? the TC saves space and is light to carry. but i don't think i will use it very often... only when needing that extra range.. thus thot of the TC |

...I found that 1.4X + 70-200 still give you a decent picture (especially in the bright day light) |
