Hello everyone. I have been given the opportunity to buy a used EF 100 F/2.8 Macro USM and a ML-3 macro ring flash for a ridiculously low price! I will be mounting it on my 10D.
I will definitely be getting the lens but I am not so sure about the ML-3. Is it compatible with E-TTL? I know that the 10D can not use older flashes like the EZ series Speedlites (no support for E-TTL). Also, there are no external controls on the ML-3. How do you modulate the power of the flash? Is the only way to use the 10D's FEC? |

I think newer cameras like 300D and 10D do support the TTL mode of older flash units. Please check.

Digital EOS (especially the newer models) will ONLY work in automatic mode with the EX-series of Speedlites (i.e. with E-TTL). It will NOT WORK in auto mode with EZ or older series of Speedlites (i.e. those without E-TTL).
Due to the way DSLRs work, EOS DSLRs will not work with flashes that do not support E-TTL. A-TTL or even plain TTL will NOT work. You can try doing manual on your flash (if that macro flash allows--but a quick check reveals it MAY not), but you'll need a lot of trial and error to get the correct exposure. |
