Hi! just curious is it common for even professionals to do some post editing after shooting in photoshop? Was just wondering if its possible to achieve total perfection when shooting without any editing at all. Apologies if this sounds stupid cause i newbie. Appreciate forumers advice.

Depends on your expectations on what is "perfection". If you like it enough without PP, then its good enough.

Well i guess this really depends on your definition of total perfection and editing.
Such definitions might vary even between pros.

Pro had to answer to their clients most of the time.
Even if they think it perfect, their client might want to make minor adjustment, so there you go..

In the olden days, pros who took photos in the studios would later use airbrush to touch up the photos before presenting it to clients.

In the digital age, pros would use photoshop to touch up before presenting it to clients.

The difference now is that photoshop is such a convenient tool that everybody uses it. I use Lightroom to do minor enhancement like midtones and highlights.

Technically speaking, no. Such a state of affairs has and never will exist. And as others have pointed out, or rather, asked, what is 'perfection' anyway? Definitions will vary.

Continuing that logic, the ideal of capturing a good, or competent shot in one frame is a disciplined approach used by some, and not a technical state equal to 'perfection' ... whatever that is.

Expanding it further, there are good photog out there who will take that shot and never proceeded to do any enhancement. But the majority will take a thousand shots and only keep one after going through photoshop.

I guess it also depends on what one is shooting.

Some approaches or processes demand multiple variations like in fashion or glamor work, or when kids and animals are involved, and others by virtue of technical requirements like in HDR or some forms of scientific photography.

On a technical level, the notion that 'no enhancements' are ever made is an idealistic, romanticized notion.

Even choosing a particular film stock, lens or digital capture device already includes hundreds, if not tens of thousands of pre-determined, human-induced factors that are designed and put in place to affect the resulting image. In effect, the 'editing' already took place long before the shutter was tripped.

And even from an emotionally-influenced perspective, some form of pre-capture decision making processes already 'enhance' the (predicted or desired) results. When one changes exposure relative to a meter reading, or even choosing a different shooting angle - that all affects the way colors, light and how the entire image is rendered on film or in digital code.

Based on that, to say that "there are good photog out there who will take that shot and never proceeded to do any enhancement" is a misnomer both in terms of romanticized ideals, or technical reality.

    No offense.

many types of images can use AT IT IS, or some situation it need to use AT IT IS.

however, if spend a bit little time to post process, it can make a lot of different to the images, however that really depends on the final requirement of how the images will be used.

btw, have you hear about the saying? "aim for perfection, settle for excellence"

so the is no such state is perfection, noting can be perfect if you are a perfectionist.
