Bargaincity is selling at $833 (excluding gst) so I guess the price should be around there ?
Just use your Ixus 400 until you think you have outgrown it and proceed on directly to DSLR ? heeeheee

You should not regret buying your S400. It is a better camera than the S500 IMO. I don't think you need to go beyond 4 megapixels for a small point and shoot. There are disadvantages to cramming too many pixels into a tiny sensor:

1. More noise in shadow areas and high ISO.
2. Increased susceptibility to sensor blooming.
3. Increased susceptibility to purple fringing.

With the TINY sensor and the less-than-stellar lens I do not think you will want to enlarge larger than A4 EVEN if you managed to capture a perfectly exposed 5 megapixel image. You will just show up the deficiencies of the lens and highlight noise in shadow areas.

Keep your S400 and be happy.

Thanks Amfibius, that really soothes me.
