I just got EPL1 a couple of days back. Its an impressive little basterd. The ISO is very good. at 1600, i cant see any noise. The only problem im having is the write to SD card. Its too slow. I have to wait after every shot. any idea how to improve it beside using a faster SD card

Are u using art filter mode? Art filter will lag and won't allow u to take multiple shots at one go

some of the pics that i take has noise even at ISO 800..

i turned my noise reduction to "auto" and noise filter to "off"..
    gradation is at "low"..

is there something wrong with these settings?

There will always be noise when shooting at high iso.. depending on what is the subject and whether the background is balack or white. normally black backgrounds will tend to 'bring out' the noise, making it more obvious.

Plus you should probably turn on noise filter to clean the noise up rather than off if you're concern with noise

Depends really, people turn it off to retain detail at the cost of having noise, some rather have no noise and don't care about details i guess, I personally do not care about noise up to ISO 1600,3200 is bad for me but it feels realistic to me

will try experimenting with different settings..

funny when i used my GF1 it did not have this much of noise problem..
is it because of the venus processing engine or something?

That I'm not really sure and not gonna comment too much on les I get fired on,but basically, each company tunes their product differently, some choose to do so and so, some choose to do other ways, so GF1 probably remove more noise at the cost of details whereas Olympus, with multiple settings ,can let you have more noise or less noise with more details or less details

i tink this is the case..

coz i do not remember seeing "Noise Reduction" and "Noise Filter" switches or equivalent in the GF1..
correct me if i am wrong..

    personally i cant stand noise..
willing to sacrifice abit of details here and there..

I've seen details lost so bad I'd rather have noise from a certain camera, won't name it though anyway, lets end it here ya?

My GF1 can't really shoot at ISO800,... too much noise! ISO400 is really the highest I can accept on this camera, lucky have the f1.7 to help out. Is the Oly very good in ISO800? I see some reviews that Oly noise is slightly better, but is it unnoticable like ISO400? thanks

Not really sure, best you go and have a look at the review sites and decide for yourself, since too much noise and better is subjective, that much I can say

Did anyone experience live-view lag when shooting in art filters Pin Hole and Diorama on E-PL1? - the other art filters are okay and don't exhibit signs of lag. Is it normal?

It is normal, art filters that requires a lot of processing power, currently the pin hole, diorama and grainy film(though not that bad) will be slow, those simple ones such as pop art and light tone not so much so,soft focus also a little slow
