Secondly, for poor countries, playing well or excelling in a sport is a way out of poverty.
Vietnam and Indonesia dun have professional league.

Playing good football will not be a way out of poverty.

Unless u are at South American and African.

Having saw their ai mai ai mai attitude, that is last straw for me….
Since then, i stopped following team Singapore development,
The whole team seriously lacked the winning mentality which is so important in competitive Sport,
If u dun play to win, must as well dun play rite??

If not for Akane to post about the match with Japan, I prob would also miss the match even if its shown live on TV,

If the team dun play with passion, tell me which sponsor would be willing to sponsor the team, without money, the game dun improve, vicious cycle thingy….

This is what I dun understand. being reward better yet perform poorer.
its the passion thingy, at least i dun sense any pride they have donning S'pore Shirt, but u can feel the strong passion of the laos or viet player,
its like a invinisble forces driving them to run that bit faster, tackle a little bit harder etc .....

Do you want to go further to say that they wait for the ball to roll into the goal as well?

The ball is round mah. It will come to you when you have the patience to wait for it.

Haven't you played any football in school before meh? The smart ones sit at at a corner and they only get up when the ball arrives. The other ones chase the ball all over the place and run out of breath and sweat a lot.

possibly because of some of them not treating their soccer careers as do-or-die?

i believe it may be a case of not having not-so-strong feelings for representing the country. there are a myriad of possible reasons why this may be or may not be the case.

indeed, soccer players will face a problem of their ever-shortening years of youth. and not to forget the possible injuries, rehab, and things like that. and when their bodies are getting ready to call it a day from competitive soccer, the funds for the days after that are not tallying.

i support team with players who play with pride.

sometimes think now singapore sama sama like liverpool players..no pride at all!
only steven gerrard got some pride in wearing the famous red jersey.

for the singapore players, i think they all think they are the next fandi.
also probably we give them too much media coverage and made them think highly of themselves. they thought they are superstars
Confidence is thinking you'll be Champions, arrogance is stating it.

this apply to all their games,

so no point dumping your hard earn money and donate to charity,
might as well save up and spent it on equipments etc to take more photo

I have not been a fan of Sg soccer team for long time since ever Abass (His name?) left the team due to corruption. He's a good player and has never taken a bribe. He only opted to play better for Sg team but was accused of corruption (brible taking). If there's no monetary or incentives involved, I dun think it should be considered taking a bribe at all. Moreover, the SG team coach quitted which he has conflicting ideology with the management too. This spells the doom for SG soccer. Team players are of very low morale. I think the soccer team management needs to be changed in order for my soccer team to take off. There's nothing wrong with the players only the management sucks.

Support local sport with what you can, time, money, your presence.

A lot is chicken and egg problem, no sponsors -> no money -> slow development.
Supporting local sport will help increase revenue -> increase sponsorship -> may speed up development.

Fan support is important because you can't expect corporates to sponsor teams like "charity", without getting something back, because they want advertising, mileage, etc. Imagine from business perspective, why would I want to pay $$$ to have my brandname on the jersey, and advertising billboards in stadiums, when only a handful of people watch a game. Your support helps teams in more way than just the few dollar ticket you pay. You are important.

Do your bit to support, whatever way you can.

My personal view is that a lot of the problem lies in our sense of belonging or relation to a team. We feel we belong to Singapore, and therefore want Malaysia Cup days, where we play outsiders, but not Tampines or Geylang, playing against Woodlands. Why?

In England, I know of people supporting their team for 20 30 years, because it is their TEAM!! Even when the team relegate to 2nd or 3rd division, they are still there. Why?

I think as citizens, we have to also look at what we can do to help bring the spirit back, instead of waiting for someone "do it" for us.

Why should you be concern with FAS, if the players who are giving their time to their country, are not?

They wear Singapore colours, not the photo of Mr Mah or Mr Ho, or whom every is in office. The players don't play for them, they play for Singapore!!

i think its more than that. take the singapore-malaysia game last year. they asked for support and thousands of fans turn up. and what happens? they lose 0-4 and have the cheek to say they not used to playing in front of such a large crowd. bull man.

ok maybe that was one incident. the thing is fans can support with pride but are the players playing with pride? so far i have not see much evidence of that. maybe they should start playing their hearts out first, starting tonight. if they do that, the fans will come back.

for singapore to draw or even win this game is a near impossible... the main question is will singapore able to score a single goal against them ???? that is what i wanna see.. i dont expect miracle to happens.. being a playmaker myself during the early 70s... i used to beg for a chance to prove my ability.. i got it and make full use of it... but not to a national level... for us to be in the global level, we must ask this question first... do we have a footballing culture ?????... yes we have an open grass patch here and there, but an over crowded one such as at bishan park.. and someplaces else but often been chase away... really sad... what i really wanna see in the near future is that... a thinking footballer and more specialist like Dolah Kassim the gelek king, Rajagopal the banana specialist, arshad kamis and mokhtar dahari the pile driver Sudiat Dali and Hasli ibrahim the russian tank.. those names can really shake the opponent guts... my idol in the 70 was and still is... our own zainal abidin the playmaker... he is the switch.....

Yup, sometimes you do get put off by those remarks. But why turn away from the team, just because of a stupid player remark. Soccer is 11 players, are the other 10 not worth the effort.

But let's keep things simple. It's whether you want to support Singapore sports or not. It doesn't matter who plays, who coaches, who manages, who wins or who loses.

Let's not give pressure by saying only if you play well, then I come and support. Support should be unconditional, just like we expect their commitment on field to be unconditional. Everyone wants to be on a winning side, but we have to take the downs as well.

Leave player selection and management to the "experts".

Please note that I don't work for any NSAs, neither am I a die hard soccer fan. I'm just a supporter Singapore sports. I try my best to be at national events, to support Team Singapore. Just like I will be at stadium watching our rugby team this weekend.

it doesnt matter if they lose 1-0, 2-1 or 11-0. the important thing is that they keep fighting as if their lives depend on it and never give up. i would rather they go down fighting at 11-0 then lose 4-0 with a bo-chap attitude. i mean we already know the gulf between japan and sg. so i dont think its a shame to lose to them but how we lose to them is what matters.

That's the point. They won't go down fighting. I remember the glory days of soccer where we can be proud of our home team. Now they lose to the worst of teams. When they played with Malaysia recently there were a glitter of hope that they would beat them, after all they are playing on home ground. Even if they lose it should be one goal. But it's a humilation. I have given up on Singapore soccer.
