Thread: Is it true longer lens give better pictures?

Unhappy Is it true longer lens give better pictures?

just curious, imagine when you have wide angle vision and see everything in front of you, the picture always look like crowded and 99% chances get spoilt by unwanted subjects. so you must painstakingly PS them off, blur them, darken them, etc.. until you are out of wits.

now with long lens u see a spot, and can pick or choose which spot to focus on.. instead of taking in all the junks nature.. i mean life.. dump at you.. then clease them out..

does the same analogy goes with tunnel vision and xenophobic/ity makes life happier?

    really depends on situation.
if you wants the subject to have the expression whereby he/she doesnt know that you are taking, long lens is a good choice.

but for some situation, you will require a shorter lens and shoot.

Sorry. I'm a newbie here. Can you demonstrate or show me, with long lens, where would you focus on this picture? Thanks in advance.

I think you have to focus on the Red Cross.

If you have to ask this question, you are not true 500mm user.

Are you sure you played FF8? When you focus on Rinoa Heartilly, where do you focus on arh?

Please read the threadstarter question properly before answering.
Pictures always should have a special story behind it or a special meaning to the photographer.

Is longer better? That the question that those who have it will swear by it while the poorer brothers would dispute it.

Now back to the serious business of your question, it depens on what you are shooting. Based on what you have said about having to PS unwanted interference, it is likely the problem with composition. I have shot most of my shots in very crowded Angkor Wat with 50mm lens. Patience and timing and a little charisma to ask people to move away from your target scene are essential to a good shot. If you are interested, check my shots on http://www.flickr.com/photos/kkgofootprint. The mentioned pics are in the Siem Reap & Angkor Temples set.
