Some of you might probably have read it already but i'll post it anyway

I've got lots of questions but i'll keep them to myself first.

Ah yes gotta love the Americans. Now if only they shot Nikons, they wouldn't have to rotate their heads

Thanks! I read the article... wow 2 pics per second to review. That's fast!
Btw, anyone notice that the notebooks they use are using Pentium Ms. I am thinking of getting a notebook for editing my pics and was told a Pentium 4 would be a better choice. Looks like this is contrary to what Sports Illustrated think.

Another interesting point, grain (noise) seems to be more acceptable in film then in digital.

Interesting read. Not the first time I've read recommendation to format CF card before each shoot, but no reason why? Anyone know?

I think it would not matter unless you are editing 2 pics/sec . Anyway I use my pentium M to edit short movie chip, so under normal usage, photos wouldn't be a problem. Of course, you could always consider the option of an apple powerbook.

2 pics per second to review? Nah, do it all the time

Erm, powerbooks are slower than PCs. For the simple reason that ACDSee kicks ass on the PC. And Photoshop's basic editing tools are faster on the PC. Getty sports snappers did a company wide switch to Dells a month or two back.

I think formatting cards when you get them is just good practice. Unless you have enough cards to not have to copy stuff off, which is highly unlikely, you're going to need to copy off. Once that happens, there's no reason to leave the old pictures on the cards so you format them so as not to completely screw yourself/your tech when you're shooting new pics with the old pics still around.

Yeap, agree on your POV.
Also, you'll never know when in the middle of the shoot some parts of your CF is damaged and cannot store data.
There are lots and lots of good reasons to format your CF card before an important event.

Their main workhorse is still EOS 1D, and EOS 1Ds, with only a few using EOS 10D and D1X, and recently D2H. (extracted from near start of page 2).

So still turn heads.

I see... was worried the pentium Ms would be too slow. But I guess its not the case.

I think this is to get reset the fat so that the pictures get written sequentially in the CF. That way, less chance of data corruption. In the article, they format their cards before each shoot. Plus I noticed they all use up to 512mb and shoot in RAW.

Its a good article. They even have customized software to load + caption the pics. And a huge 21 inch monitor to review. I would love one of these too.

Well to be fair I don't do it for a few hours, but honestly 2 pics per second is completely normal. Heck at full tilt probably faster, just about as fast as ACDSee can keep up. A cracking picture is one that needs to jump out at you, so if you have to sit there and stare at it for it to work, it's not going to be the one you want.
