Haven't tried it, but the reviews do seem to be positive. Your thoughts on it?

    Its battlefield: bad company 2

It was released on Tues and I have been playing it for the past 3 days. Very good game. I would say it has the feel of the old BF2 and BF2412. But if you're a COD:MW2 player, you will find it very different and disorientating initially.

    $54 for DVD copy.

DVD copy comes with special unlock codes that is not avail with the steam version

And if you own previous BF games like BF2 or BF2142, you can apply for veteran status and get more unlocks.

    how is it disorientating?
Is it the UI or something?
I've been a fan of COD so wondering whether to get Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
    The gameplay looks awesome.

Firstly the map is much much bigger than most CODMW2 maps. So the same tactics wont work here. You can play solo rambo and still rack up the score in COD but in BFBC2, you need your team-mates to survive. E.g a good player with medic class will help revive fallen friends and keep the offensive going without having to wait for fallen soldiers to respawn. Or if your team are travelling in a tank, an engineer in the squad can help repair any damages the tank takes in battle and help everyone live longer.

Secondly, you get a lot of vehicles. There are tanks, boats, APC, jeeps, dirt bikes, attack choppers, transport choppers, fighter jets etc etc. And there're fixed weapons like AA guns and anti tank guns all over the map. So the fight is from all dimensions - air land and sea. Fast and furious.

Thirdly, the environment is totally distructable. Machine guns can punch holes in walls, grenades can blow down walls and well placed C4 or tank shots can collapse entire buildings and trees.

Lastly, some controls are different from COD. The most irritating is the lack of a prone function and the need to hold the c button to stay in a crouch position.

I find the controls a little sluggish. Sometimes the character will just stop for no reasons although my finger was pressing the 'W' key continuously.

The controls on COD-MW2 was smoother on my machine.

CODMW2 is more realistic..BC2 is a little stiff and unresponsive. i prefer the gameplay of MW2 with the story of BC2. hehe
