    Hi there,
maybe u can increase your budget?
I myself am looking for a camera.

So far I have narrowed down to three choices:

    1) Samsung ST45
    2) Samsung ST50
    3) Canon Powershot A3000

All of the cost $299 each.
Each got their pros and cons.

I own a cheap Samsung compact camera S760, what it was supposed to do, it did quite well considering its abt $170, colours were nice and pictures turned out quite sharp. Unfortunately its starting to have some problems after a couple of years. What I wished it had was a closer macro capability and perhaps wider angle and better low light performance, so I was hoping to get a camera roughly the same price and with hopefully these stated better performance then my older compact. I would not like to spend too much on a compact camera because I think the performance are quite identical.

IMHO, having a bigger LCD display makes it easier to compose and review my pictures hence my three options stated above.

I narrow down to the three of them due to:
    1) LCD display
    2) Macro ability
    3) A decent aperture and zoom capability.
    4) Looks

If I can get $199 for all above, I don't mind though. More cost saving for me.
But usually, the LCD display for the price range is quite small say ard 2.5 inch.

In the day, every compact cameras are the same.
But at night, its more easier to discern which are the better ones.
