Default Just another Sunday ride through the woods

The previous day's rains meant that the race course was a slippery quagmire and killed my enthusiasm for moving around the trails too much.

Here's what I did manage to get:

Looks fast doesn't he? He is. He won the Juniors class.

Pan-flash-shoot

I think they call it a manual. I'm not really sure, I ride, but I don't do downhilling.

Railing a corner

Out of the woods, into the sunshine, and it is pretty tough for the eyes to quickly adjust.

Dropping off

Shots done with a Canon EOS-D30, Sunpak PZ5000AF flash, 16mm Zenitar Fisheye, 28-105mm F3.5-4.5 Mk1, and 70-200mm F4.

Really would appreciate any comments. More pictures as I sift through my list.

the lighting is nice, but seems a tad overexposed (1/2 or 2/3 stop too much) to me. the lighting shows the atmosphere of the route

Well some comments. If you deen it too harsh, then that your problem.

1. He doesn't look fast. Not enough "motion" in the picture to suggest that. Better panning to correct that?

2. Great work on the 2nd-curtain flash.

3. Yes, it what we called it, a manual. And it not just limit to d/h. in fact it more to the street riding that you see it. This one win the lot. Great panning here.

4. Well this picture is way out. *maybe I seen the better one(2nd picture) that why I find that this pic doesn't reflect much. nice try on the 2nd-curtain.

5. This shot, has the tiger-jumping-out-of-the-jungle feel to it. I feel that the exposure is just nice as to what Sehsuan comment. If he under, he might be able to capture the details of the shadow area.

6. Hit Face tell it all, how treacherous and cunning the terrain is. I think this pic might look better if it taken in landscape mode like the 3rd pic. Give him more room to cycle to?

That all for today. looking forward to more of your pictures.

For that over-exposed shot in question, the settings are as follows:

Exposure time : 1/760s
F-number : 4
ISO : 400
Flash : No
Focal length : 131mm (210mm after 1.6x crop)
Focusing Mode : AI Servo
Shooting Mode : Av Priority
Image format : Raw

I had metered for the background , intending to highlight the rider in at particular ray of sunlight on about a 2 metre stretch of the path toward me, that is, not the whole path was sunlit.

I guess I biased my exposure too much for the background, and blew out some of the detail on the subject already.

Default Not overexposed

Overexposed? Nope, at least not to my eyes.
The contrast of dark and light areas give a very good mood and feel to the picture. A sense of emerging from something...something dangerous and into safety...

Here's one pic that's definiately underexposed...and sunburnt I guess for that matter...

PS: If you find it offensive just let me know I'll take it down immediately.

If you don't mind I would like to save a copy for myself (when I get home tonight)....... thanks for the pic. I'll forward you your pic soon.

Btw, the shadow seems pretty harsh....... more fill flash!
