    70-200 f/4L is within your budget?
    I think that makes a less unbalanced choice than a f/2.8 telephoto zoom, though of course you give up 1-stop of light.
    I note that you use a 400D, so to mount an f/2.8 zoom might make the whole setup front heavy.


    I wish Nikon made more f/4 zooms in that range...
    or maybe they do.. just that I don't know it...

    I dont think, i need the extra stops. Because I predict that i would use the 70-200 mostly during the day time. And the f/2.8 is rather heavy and rather expensive haha.

    Make that "very heavy and very expensive"
    if you can get the f/4 zoom for <1K second hand, that should be less than half the price of a similar conditioned f/2.8 one
