the S$100 levy goes to CRA(Casino Regulatory Authority), i think. unlikely to go to RWS.

Guys & gals, the state is trying to protect the weak. At the end of the day "it's all for your own good" as they say.
Frankly I dun know what's the big deal. I've been to LV twice, Crown & Treasury Casinos in OZ, Auckland Tower in NZ, many many in Macau & Genting Highlands 10x over but never once did I ever sat down in a casino table, well maybe only once when my fren pass me some chips to play.

What they shd do is ask ppl to pay only when you do sit down on a table to gamble, not deter ppl from entering to see only

The levy is a deterrence tool. If anything, I would be more interested to know what they are going to do with the data. I assume that since the levy goes to the authorities, there would be a record somewhere in the country's database.

Now imagine, u go and appeal to some govt body, because u cannot pay your HDB installment, or u cannot pay your utilities, or u apply to some govt body to help mitigate say hospitalization cost, or u want to apply for some subsidy, or u want to negotiate with the taxman etc - one look at the database will reveal whether any of your family member(s) has been frequenting casino and on that basis .. sorry-your application is rejected !

The $100 u need to pay is peanuts when u look at the "potentially" bigger picture

Paying $100 to gamble in Singapore ...... this is bloody UNFAIR to all SIngaporeans and PRs .......

I think those Singaporean gamblers and PR gamblers should be paying at least $500

The reason is that the non gamblers have " to give up" good space, nature, greens, water, etc to all those ugly man-made RWS and Sands and those foreigners who will inevitably increase the costs of living and introducing vices to our little island....

Just look at the current condo prices .... $3,000 to $5,000 psf? WHen you have such prices, $1,000 psf at many "ulu" places now look like a real bargain!!!

IMO - the levy amount might work both ways. If you price it higher, it could be an effective deterrent. However, it might also have the opposite effect of incentizing the local gamblers to play even more, either just to justify the higher cost of entry, or simply for them to (try) getting enough winnings to earn back their $500 admission fee.

Well, when there's not enough people patronising the casinos, they probably will give rebates in the form of chips for locals.....

Much like the same system now that the levy for FT will increase but eventually who's gonna pay the cost when it trickles down? Think abt it

It is fair if all Residents pays the levy.

It is Not fair if some residents pay (Citizens, PRs) while some don't (WP holders, foreign students).

its not about fairness...its a means of detering Singaporeans from going in. In fact i think the levy should be more than $100. maybe even $500...so that people would really think twice/thrice about going into such places to donate hard earn $.

Nope, the levy is collected for the Tote Board, the masters of Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club.

The amount is then used for social or charitable projects.

hmmm... if that's the case... then it's alright to pay the $100 and go and gamble. after all, you are doing a good deed.

btw, we are indirectly donating to charity, can use the levy as a claim from the taxman?

Why deter Singaporeans from going in then? It is to try and minimize social problems that may develop as a result of gambling right? In that case, wouldn't WP holders and student create social problem too?

Consider a Citizen earning $2k, $4k, $10k, $20k/mth or more, having to pay a $100 penalty to enter, while a $400/mth WP holder can enter "Freely"..
