Look at it this way, we have race course, we have 4D outlets, we have legalized soccer betting and now casinos.....IMO SG gov acted responsibly so far.....we just have to trust them to be able to strike a balance in providing adequate freedom without loosing control over these activities....for hardcore gambler...there are always Geylang, Batam or Genting....there is nothing really can stop them....
The potential of these two projects to revive tourism is huge....think about it...what else Sg have that other country can't do better? Zoo? Ferris Wheel? or Orchard road? Any one of this can be replicated easily at Johor....however a clean, safe and high intergrity is something SG triumph over the region....if I am a high roller....I want to be able to walk in walk out of the casino/hotel safely....I have private banking service right across the street....I can talk business at Raffles Place right after a table game last night....I have a safe airport to land my private jet and chio english spoken SPG accompanying me throughout my stay.....SG gov have foresight....these are the total package that we can provide that not easily replicated....At the end of the day, gov laught their way to the bank and so is their citizens I am sure
Seems that there is a few places that are opened to the public on special occasions like the Istana on new year's day etc.. How about adding casino to the list and removing the levy on selected PHs? sure good business..
And, since it is only occasional days, the original intention of the levy is not compromised. Of course those banned will remain to be banned lah..
notice how the pawnshops all advertising themselves on tv? before the IR i've nv seen them post an ad anywhere! the sad thing is for the 1st 2 weeks all we see are singaporeans (alot of uncles and aunties) in there, and the risk of them losing their live savings in a moment of temptation is very real
I remember Sentosa island in the past was so hyped about bringing in tourists and could have learnt more from Disney's multiple failures in its ventures overseas. I think the integrated resort idea wasn't really a well conceived idea for the long run (above 5 to 10 years) and that its cost may likely outweigh it's benefits as we move forward.

There are examples that could be learned from
regarding profitable operations.
There is the ever lasting Genting Casino Resort
and the many fine on going ventures in Las Vegas
that are still running smoothly including the famous
Disney's creative way of operation.and service.
Unless this is adapted and adopted quickly the
local venture will not be able to pull in the crowd.
Just look at the Singapore Flyer and you will know
what could be done.
Frankly I doubt if the harm will be as bad. There are measures in place already, such as barring of family members from the casino, plus the $100 fee. Yes there will be some crime increase, but in terms of jobs, govt revenue, money for charities and arts, tourism.. numbers wise it makes sense.
The guy who swindled APB of more than $100+ million for his gambling debts did it well before there were casinos in Singapore.
And look at the casinos in the region..
We're already surrounded by them!Chia was a frequent patron of casinos in Australia, Britain, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Cambodia and the Philippines.
Cambodia also opens 'luxury' casino...
Just hope we don't end up with 2 very costly white elephants...
be open minded......
... to govt it is good for economy.. to people it is your own business ! so dun say people force you go in..
I will agree that during the opening, they should offer free entry for a short spend of days specially for the locals to visit the place. I believe there will be people wanted to check out the casino be it gamblers or non gamblers. Hey, we are talking about Singapore's first casino isn't it.
Man I was at the Sands Resort to view some retail space and pass one of the the soon to be open Casino hall.. has all the wavy lines on the wall in wood wavy lines and it all lead up to the ceiling which was very creative and spetacular as it was light up and the wave form like an onion skill that lead to form an EYE.
The two impre4ssion I get is the eye seem to represent, I am watching over you and your money as I take them from you.. and the onion skin look is like saying I will take your money from you layer after layer after layer heheheheheh... the irony of the interior design of the casino and looking at the massive number of tables...unbelievable! Wish I could show you the shots I took but nah...don't wanna get into trouble over what can or cant be seen as yet. But when you get to see the photo of it....you'll get the picture.
Many of the Foreign workers, Foreign students, Foreign neighbors would have checked out the place long ago with FREE unlimited admission.. Some maybe see until don't want to see already..
Only the Singaporeans and PRs didn't get a chance for even a FREE peek at Singapore's First casino..
