Was longing to see that "nostalgic " 36 doors limo...wonder got any picture of it ?

BTW....CK Tang was not originated from Orchard Road...anyone here has got a LLLoooong memory ? Sorry, no prize for the correct answer. ( clue..religious people might know )

I was involved in the Jurong Drive-In cinema project then. The concept was borrow from Australia, as we use their blueprints as reference to fit into the site here.
Drive-In operates under Cathay Cinema, it was the times of Bruce Lee...唐山大兄..the BIG BOSS.

Any photos of the satay man carrying his stall on his shoulder? when I was younger satay was a treat... still love satay very much, although now have to watch the intake.

Thanks for posting these photos, they should make a documentary series of all the old places long gone. This is really reminiscing of Singapore's past... not sure if it is our glory past but I still like it. It is images like these that makes me bond with the place I call home.

Wow. Thanks for those sharing photos. I now know, I don't qualify for those born in 60s.

Anyone has Orchard Rd images from the 60s to share........ i was too young then but still remember that it was just filled with shophouses on both sides with Cold Storage the main building (where Centerpoint is today)

....also the nightly push-cart filled hawker center with great food next to the canal opposite Cold Storage

I've asked my dad to dig out old images for scanning

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS

Hey ed9119, thanks for starting this thread. Its a good reminder to us on how far we've gone by looking back. I guess those days were tough but those were our wonder years.
Hope to see more 60's photos as I'm rummaging through to find for more..........hehe
    Take the shot!

Awesome photos guys, thank you so much. I luv these old photos of Singapore, simply amazing stuffs. It was a different time then and how much Singapore has changed. Recently took a couple of shots overlooking Marina bay and was thinking to myself that Sg looks like something from bladerunner and now saw these photos from the 60s... was simply loss for words at the changes over 50+ years.

Basically, hard to get any of those old pictures especially of the early 50s, as photography was still considered as a hobby for the rich or al least well to do family.
We small children, only can recollect from memories. Camera, is the last thing, or never comes to our mind.

Btw, CK Tang was first started at the junction of Mohd. Sultan Road and River Valley Road, now called Gainurn Building, before moving to Orchard Road.

I remembered there's this place called Tay Ban Guan, as mentioned in the first post. I recalled going there... when it's about to be torn down... like 12-13 years ago...
Anyone could tell me what kind of place is that?

    Yupe. At Katong.
Used to go there as a young boy. Walk in from the front, a big shop selling lots of things, and walk though and out of the back into one of those small lanes behind.

And by the way, that time was also about the same time when there was still the Emporium chain of stores in Singapore. The last one was in Katong Shopping Centre ground floor and basement before it was finally shut down for good.

Not exactly, there will be no one left to start such a tread after the majority of people in the same generation had passed away.

You don't see threads titled "If you were born in the '20s in Singapore..." do you?
