Default Today is the 68th anniversary of the Fall of Singapore

68 years ago today, 15 Feb 1942, the British army surrendered to the Imperial Japanese Army.

This was immediately followed by the Sook Ching massacre, where an estimate of 50,000 local population were executed by the Japanese.

Singapore suffered 3 years 8 months of harsh occupation.

P.S. The message is not to bring hatred, but to remember and not to forget
what our forefathers have seen and endure during the darkness age of Singapore history.

Sorry for posting during CNY festival.

War is one of the most regrettable human activities.

    I agree.

We must not forget. All the more important as more and more survivors will leave us in the coming years.

Thank you for reminding us. It was also CNY 68 years ago.

In the dark history, they fought with bravery in order for today to be possible. Salute and more salutes.

    Well said.
It was the past and will be a stark reminder that war is cruel.

My grandpa told many stories and he swore he never eat anything from that country as the flashbacks were far too vivid. He treasured peace and he hoped he would never witness another war. Chopsticks pierced into ears, waves of electric shocks were just a teaser, fingers crushed with clamps with a turning stick, a dripping tap could drive a pow insane without force or hurt.

It is peace that enabled Singapore's progress. We have it still. Treasure it.
